Our client, a Tier 1 Financial Service firm seeks an experienced Mainframe Test Automation Specialist to lead test execution and validation for their z/OS environment. The primary focus is designing and executing comprehensive testing protocols, including regression testing, batch job validation, data integrity checks, and deployment verification.

You will need strong operational Mainframe knowledge to understand system behaviour, troubleshoot test failures, and validate changes in production-like environments.

Required Technical SkillsTest Automation & Scripting

• JCL (Job Control Language: designing test jobs, parameter passing, batch validation)
• REXX (writing test automation scripts and system validation routines)
• Cobol (reading business logic, designing test cases, debugging code behaviour)

Mainframe Testing & Validation

• IBM z/OS operating system (practical testing experience)
• IBM DB2 (SQL testing, data integrity validation, transaction verification)
• XML (data parsing validation in test scenarios)
• Test data setup and management in Mainframe environments
• Batch job testing and output validation

File Transfer & Integration Testing

• CFT (SEEQ Secure File Transfer) testing and validation
• XFB Gateway (file transfer validation and troubleshooting)
• SecureTransport (secure data exchange testing)
• Flow Manager (workflow automation and test validation)
• Data flow validation across integration points

Modern Integration (Supporting)

• .NET Framework & C# (understanding hybrid Mainframe/Windows test environments)
• Visual Basic .NET (VB.NET) (Legacy integration code understanding)
• IzWS (Mainframe web services test validation)

Operational Tools (Supporting)

• Mainframe performance monitoring and analysis
• System log analysis for test failure troubleshooting
• Job scheduling systems (eg, Control-M or equivalent)

Required Experience

• Minimum 4-5 years in Mainframe QA/testing or Mainframe operations with strong testing focus
• Proven track record designing and executing test scripts in z/OS environments
• Experience with Cobol business logic validation and test case design
• Hands-on experience with batch job testing, data validation, and regression testing
• Strong understanding of IT change management and deployment validation processes
• Experience troubleshooting test failures in Mainframe environments
• Familiarity with banking/financial services testing and compliance (preferred but not mandatory)
• Ability to read and debug Cobol code to understand system behaviour under test
