Lymphoma Clinical Research Fellow

This is a fellow post (functioning clinically at the level of an experienced specialist registrar in Haematology) within the lymphoma team at NUH including a CAR-T program within a large regional lymphoma service. This clinical fellowship appointment will provide high quality clinical training (inpatient and outpatient setting) in all aspects of lymphoid malignancies including Chimeric Antigen Receptor T-cell (CAR-T) therapy and other novel therapies for patients with lymphoma. The post includes a focus on clinical research, supporting delivery of clinical trials and including protected time for supervised clinical research. Clinical and educational supervision will be provided by the lymphoma Consultants.

Main duties of the job

This post is designed to offer extensive experience and focused development of skills in the clinical management of patients with lymphoid malignancies within a clinical research theme. Broadly, two types of applicants will be considered. Firstly, individuals who have already completed their specialist training (ST) in haematology (either in the UK NHS or in a recognised equivalent training system in another country) who wish to further broaden and strengthen their training prior to applying for a Consultant post specialising in lymphoid malignancies. Secondly, individuals within the second-half of their Haematology specialist training programme (having attained FRCPath part I +/- part II), as an approved (by the home Deanery prior to taking up the post) 'out of programme' training period.

Person Specification Communication & Skills

• All applicants to have demonstrable skills in written and spoken English that are adequate to enable effective communication about medical topics with patients and colleagues
• Evidence of completed audit
• Participation in a leadership training course
• Evidence of specific communication skills training
• Presentation of audit findings at a regional or national meeting
• Publication of audit findings
• Contribution to a national audit project

Training

• Degree in Medicine (BMB, MBChB or equivalent)
• GMC Licence to practice
• Eligibility to work in the UK
• FRCPath part 1 (or recognised equivalent)
• FRCPath part 2 (or recognised equivalent)
• Higher Research Degree eg MD/DM, PhD

Experience

• Minimum of two years post-graduate clinical training in hospital-based general/internal medical specialities including at least 12 months of acute (unselected) general/internal medicine.
• Broad experience of training in Haematology (including experience of lymphoma/CLL); a minimum of 2 years' experience at ST(registrar)-level at the time of taking up this post, with evidence of clear progression of training
• Experience in making clinical decisions for patients with blood cancer, appropriately managing risk, and recognising when to seek advice
• Demonstrable ability to work effectively in different clinical settings (inpatient/outpatient/daycase) at the level of a experienced ST(registrar)-level doctor
• Evidence of a keen interest in teaching and training
• CCT (completion of speciality training) in Haematology
• Evidence of commitment to Lymphoma/CLL as a long-term sub-speciality focus
• Evidence of specific training in teaching/education
• Formal teaching/training qualification
