Locum Consultant Radiologist with Interest in GIHPB

The closing date is 07 October 2025. This is a 10 PA locum appointment for a Consultant Radiologist, with special interests in GIHPB. This post will be available from October 2025 for a period of 12 months. This post will deliver 10 PAs supporting the GIHPB Radiology team. The post will be based at SJUH.
The successful applicant should hold accreditation in FRCR in the Royal College of Radiologists or equivalent and should be on the Specialist Register or within six months of being admitted to the Register for trainees if currently in a training programme within the UK or have references which have been authorised by the Deputy Medical Director and Clinical Director. Applicants should have established skills in GIHPB Radiology. Excellent communication and team working skills, a strong commitment to teaching and service development are essential.
The LTHT radiology department is one of the largest in Europe and has an established reputation for clinical innovation and teaching, with a significant teaching and research profile. It is involved in academic programmes focusing on oncology radiology and has strong links with the University of Leeds.
Responsibilities- The appointee will contribute to the existing diagnostic GIHPB radiology workload and MDT commitment, joining the small sub-speciality team providing support to the Leeds Liver Unit.
- Join the regional tertiary Liver/Gallbladder and Pancreatic MDTs and contribute to the department 0s diagnostic radiology on-call service.
- Provide coverage to meet increasing demand on the GIHPB and Acute Radiology services, support the regional tertiary GIHPB cancer MDTs, and increase cold reporting capacity.
- Ensure involvement in teaching, service development, and collaboration with the Leeds Liver Unit and related clinical teams.
- Essential FRCR or equivalent qualification; eligible for GMC registration at time of appointment; current licence to practice; eligible to work in the UK; up-to-date and fit to practise; completed higher training in GI/HPB radiology within a recognised training programme for at least 18 months with appropriate RCR level 2 competencies.
- Desirable sub-specialty interest in HPB radiology; experience in reporting CTC; experience in non-vascular interventional procedures (US and CT guided drains and biopsies); experience in diagnostic GI fluoroscopy; experience in diagnostic ultrasound including Doppler and liver transplant assessment; previous experience supervising research by junior staff; relevant higher degree.
The LTHT radiology department is one of the largest in Europe with a reputation for clinical innovation, teaching and research. It includes a national radiology training academy and NIHR-funded research 3T MRI within the Leeds Biomedical Research Unit. The department supports imaging across musculoskeletal projects and radiology-specific research, with ongoing development of an oncology radiology academic programme led by a Professor of Radiology.
