Guy's & St Thomas' NHS Foundation Trust, one of the UK's leading and most prestigious teaching hospitals, is seeking an exceptional Consultant Radiologist with a subspecialty interest in Cross Sectional/Oncological Imaging. This is a full-time (10 PA) fixed-term position for 12 months. This presents an exciting opportunity to join a dynamic radiology team and contribute to the continued excellence of our diagnostic and imaging services.

Main duties of the job

The successful candidate will be responsible for delivering high-quality diagnostic imaging services, contributing to multidisciplinary team meetings (MDTs), and supporting acute and outpatient imaging pathways. Responsibilities will include:

o Oncological imaging support and MDT participation.o Acute imaging, including emergency CT and MRI spine reporting.o Teaching and training of radiology trainees and allied healthcare professionals.o Engagement in research, service development, and quality improvement initiatives.o Participation in on call rota will be discussed with the successful applicanto Evening and weekend working to support service requirements

About us

The Department of Radiology is part of the Clinical Imaging and Medical Physics (CLIMP) Directorate within the Integrated and Specialist Medicine (ISM) clinical group. It is led by Joint Clinical Directors, supported by a General Manager and Head of Nursing. The Radiology Department's management team comprises a Clinical Lead Radiologist and a Head of Radiology Services.

The Directorate actively contributes to the Academic Health Science Centre (AHSC) through its participation in the Imaging and Biomedical Engineering Clinical Academic Group. Imaging services are delivered across three main sites: St Thomas' Hospital, Guy's Hospital, and Evelina Children's Hospital. The department operates a fully integrated RIS and PACS system (Sectra), enabling seamless image interpretation across all locations. Additionally, the department has video-conferencing capabilities and PACS links with regional hospitals to facilitate multidisciplinary patient reviews.

With an asset base exceeding £25 million, the department is equipped with state-of-the-art imaging and interventional facilities. Annually, the department performs over 500,000 imaging examinations, including approximately 88,000 CT scans.

Job responsibilities

The postholder will be required to work across multiple sites as determined by the senior management team and service requirements. The role consists of 10 programmed activities, including:

  • Clinical duties as outlined above
  • Teaching and training radiology registrars, clinical fellows, medical students, and allied health professionals
  • Participation in leadership, quality improvement, and clinical governance activities as part of Supporting Professional Activities (SPA)
  • Contribution to the on-call rota and potential evening and weekend working to support service needs

Person Specification Professional Qualifications
  • Eligible for full UK GMC registration and a Licence to Practice
  • On GMC Specialist Register or within six months of attaining CCT.
  • FRCR or equivalent
Clinical Experience & Skills
  • Completion of specialist radiology training programme
  • Subspecialty training in Cross Sectional Imaging/Oncology
  • Independent performance and reporting of general CT and xray imaging.
  • Experience in participating and leading multidisciplinary meetings
  • Experience of Haemato-Oncology MDM
  • Experience of Independent MDM work
Audit Management and IT
  • Understand the role of clinical governance and audit in a successful department.
  • Management and IT skills.
  • Understanding of principles of audit.
  • Specific audits in Cross Sectional Imaging or/and Oncology
Research, Teaching skill & experience
  • Understand the importance of research and its role in imaging.
  • Experience of teaching and training undergraduates, postgraduates and junior medical staff.
  • Track record of published research in peer reviewed publications.
