Locum Consultant Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery

We are pleased to welcome applications in the Plastic Surgery department (one 10 PA post and one 8 PA post) based on both the Chelsea and Sutton sites of The Royal Marsden. This is fixed term for 12 months. The appointee will be appropriately experienced in cancer reconstruction surgery and be able to manage a high clinical workload. Although the appointee will be expected to contribute to the large clinical workload supporting all clinical units, he/she will primarily provide reconstructive support across both sites of the hospital.

Main duties of the job

It is envisaged that the successful applicant will help to enable the Trust to improve and maintain performance within national waiting time targets for immediate risk reducing and delayed reconstruction, and to meet patient choice around immediate reconstruction at the time of surgery for cancer. This role will be suitable for a surgeon who is adept at balancing competing demands and is comfortable with being flexible and responsive to help meet the service needs of the department. There is an expectation that the candidate will be willing to work flexibly to make use of adhoc available theatre sessions. This includes covering annual leave and Saturday operating on a 1:4 basis.

Person Specification Status

• Eligible for full GMC Registration
• FRCS or equivalent
• CSST from Royal College of Surgeons or equivalent
• Higher Degree (PhD/MD)

Experience

• Extensive experience in Plastic and Reconstructive surgery in relation to surgical oncology
• Extensive experience in microvascular surgery, complex case management and second cancer surgery
• Extensive experience in minor surgery
• Training in multi-disciplinary aspects of oncology
• Demonstrable evidence of research undertaken in plastic surgery / microvascular surgery
• Evidence of commitment to teaching
• Experience of service improvement
• International fellowship / microsurgical experience at other centres of excellence
• Management Experience
• Experience in translational medicine
