Locum Consultant Ophthalmologist (Vitreoretinal Surgery) - Northern Ireland

Position: Consultant Ophthalmologist (Vitreoretinal Surgery)
Location: Northern Ireland, UK
Contract Type: Fixed-Term Contract (with a view to extend)
Duration: ASAP - 6 months initially
Hours: 09:00 - 17:00, Monday to Friday
On-Call: To be discussed at the point of booking
Start Date: ASAP

About the Role:

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Consultant Ophthalmologist with a specialization in Vitreoretinal Surgery to join our team in Northern Ireland. This full-time position is available immediately for an initial period of six months, with the potential for extension. The successful candidate will work Monday to Friday from 09:00 to 17:00, with on-call responsibilities to be discussed at the point of booking.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide expert clinical care in vitreoretinal surgery and general ophthalmology.
  • Perform vitreoretinal surgical procedures and manage post-operative care.
  • Conduct outpatient clinics, including assessments and follow-up appointments.
  • Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to deliver comprehensive eye care services.
  • Participate in clinical governance, audit, and quality improvement initiatives.
  • Mentor and support junior medical staff and healthcare professionals.
  • Maintain accurate and detailed medical records.

Requirements:

  • Medical degree and full GMC registration.
  • CCT in Ophthalmology or equivalent, with subspecialty training in Vitreoretinal Surgery.
  • Extensive experience in vitreoretinal surgery at the consultant level.
  • Strong clinical and surgical skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Commitment to continuous professional development and education.
