Job overviewThe Christie NHS Foundation Trust is looking to appoint an enthusiastic locum consultant in medical oncology (breast) to join our multidisciplinary teams for four sessions (16 hours) per week in a substantive role.
The successful candidate will join the multidisciplinary team consultants across Medical Oncology, clinical fellows, a specialist registrar, nurse clinicians, a pharmacist, clinical nurse specialists, research nurses, project managers and clinical trial administrators.
The role will involve two clinics per week and attendance at the Wednesday MDT. Suitable SPA and admin time is provided.
Main duties of the job- Attendance and review of patients in the weekly breast Medical Oncology clinics. Includes new and follow up patients, on treatment.
- Completion of patient administration tasks.
- Completion of and maintenance of Good Clinical Practice Certification (regulatory requirement for clinical trial participation, if appropriate).
- Become familiar with ongoing clinical trials, as appropriate (for context when seeing outpatients in clinic).
- Maintain knowledge of local, national and international developments in diagnosis and treatment of Breast Cancer through attendance at conferences, as appropriate.
The postholder will contribute to the delivery of high quality consultant led care across 7 days. This includes participation in planned weekend and weekday clinical activity to support safe, timely decision making and continuity of care for patients.

We provide radiotherapy through one of the largest radiotherapy departments in the world; chemotherapy on site and through 14 other hospitals; highly specialist surgery for complex and rare cancer; and a wide range of support and diagnostic services. Cancer research in Manchester, most of which is undertaken on the Christie site, has been officially ranked the best in the UK.
Person specification- GMC registration with a license to practice.
- Evidence of productive ethical research relevant to oncology.
- Wide experience of Oncology.
- Recent publications in peer reviewed journals.
- Appropriate experience across disease groups in Medical Oncology.
- Evidence of wide experience and training in general and oncological medicine at specialist registrar or similar (e.g. specialty doctor) level.
- Experience in teaching undergraduates.
- Experience of clinical audit.
- Evidence of contribution to teaching.
- Evidence of communication skills training in advanced techniques for communicating significant news to patients.
- Knowledge of General Medical Council requirements for revalidation and the UK National Health Service process of appraisal.
- Ability to adapt to changing circumstances within a team.
- Evidence of clinical leadership skills.
- Proven ability to lead a team.
- Integrity, management and communication skills including teaching.
- Confident in ability but knowing own limitations.
- Demonstrates knowledge, logic and efficiency.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
