Job Description
Locum Consultant in Trauma and Orthopaedic (Lower Limb) WM site

Closing date is 05 July 2026.

The postholder will provide high quality, consultant led care in lower limb surgery within Chelsea and Westminster Hospital NHS Foundation Trust, specialising in the assessment, diagnosis and management of patients with hip, knee and other musculoskeletal conditions, including soft tissue and complex fractures such as periprosthetic femoral fractures. The role emphasises elective recovery and, where required, trauma services across outpatient clinics, operating theatres and inpatient ward settings.

The successful candidate will work collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team to deliver safe, effective and patient centred care, supporting the Trust's commitment to clinical excellence and continuous improvement. The postholder will contribute to service development, clinical governance, audit and teaching, including supervision and training of junior medical staff.

Participation in departmental activities - including on call rotas, service planning and innovation - will be expected, alongside maintaining high standards of quality, safety and patient experience.

The base hospital for the role will be West Middlesex University Hospital, but the postholder will be required to work across multiple sites where necessary, such as the Elective Orthopaedic Centre at Central Middlesex Hospital.

Main duties of the job

The weekly timetable for this role comprises fracture clinic, outpatient clinics, main theatre sessions, ward rounds and an allocated off day (which may need to be applied flexibly depending on capacity). The post also includes core SPA time and responsibilities such as triage, advice and guidance (A&G), and participation in PTL meetings. A flexible DCC session may be used for either clinic or theatre work, and dedicated administrative time is provided for list planning.
