Locum Consultant in Palliative Medicine

Location of work: St. Joseph's Hospice, Mare Street, London
Contract: Fixed term until end October 2026 for maternity leave; full time (10 PAs) or part time will be considered.
Salary: £109,725 - £145,478 per annum pro rata + 2% on call supplement + London weighting allowance.
Main duties of the jobWe are looking for a Consultant passionate about equity in end of life care. You will lead clinical excellence and proactively reach harder to reach groups, such as the homeless community, through research, audit, and education. Supported by a multilingual advocacy team and modern day hospice facilities, you will ensure specialist services are accessible to all.
Key Requirements- Full GMC registration with a licence to practise.
- On the Specialist Register for Palliative Medicine (or within 6 months of CCT).
- A demonstrable commitment to inclusive practice and cultural competence.
- On call 1:8 weeknights and weekends.
Join an established, forward thinking Palliative Care team at St. Joseph's Hospice. This role is primarily community based, with inpatient ward cover, serving the vibrant and ethnically diverse population of Newham, Tower Hamlets, City and Hackney.

Person Specification Qualifications- Full GMC registration with licence to practise.
- Diploma, Masters Degree or other higher degree in Palliative Medicine.
- On the Specialist Register for Palliative Medicine or within 6 months of attaining CCT/CESR in palliative medicine.
- Evidence of critical thinking and the ability to apply evidence in clinical practice.
- Recognition of the importance of ongoing CPD.
- Experience of undergraduate and/or postgraduate teaching.
- Evidence of involvement in audit projects and quality improvement projects.Publications in peer reviewed journals.
- Evidence of experience and interest in development of self as teacher.
- Experience of leading or significant contribution to audit groups.
- Understanding of current issues facing the NHS and independent hospices.
- Appreciation of what makes a good leader, good manager and good team player.
- Experience of leading service development at consultant level.
- Experience of line management, educational supervision or preparing works schedule for trainees.
