Locum Consultant in Paediatric Orthopaedics NHS Medical & Dental: Locum Consultant Main area Paediatric Orthopaedics Grade NHS Medical & Dental: Locum Consultant Contract Fixed term: 12 months (8 PA job plan basis with 1:4 on-call commitment, which covers the elective service but not the trauma service, with no obligatory trauma on-call commitments.) We are an established team of 4 consultants who work alongside specialist nurses and physiotherapists, clinical fellow with the only RCS-certified Paediatric Orthopaedic fellowship in the country, deanery and CESR trainees, and a nationally-renowned Gait Lab.
The serviceprovides an electivePaediatric Orthopaedic serviceto theOxford region,working closely with a multidisciplinary team, and developing the service further to support colleagues in regional hospitals across ThamesValley.We arelooking fora colleague who can help us towards buildingthis service further.
Main duties of the job To provide a high quality secondary and tertiary paediatric orthopaedic service to the children and adolescents of Oxfordshire and Thames Valley, and neighbouring counties.
Tosupportthemultidisciplinaryteam,andparticipate inmultidisciplinary meetings
To support and continue to develop clinical collaboration with otherpaediatricservices in Oxford and Buckinghamshire, especially where this may impact on paediatric orthopaedic provision.
To develop further paediatric training in orthopaedics with support of Locally and Nationally appointed trainees and provide orthopaedic teaching for other undergraduate and postgraduate trainees
To comply with the recommendations of the Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health, National GIRFT ('Getting it Right First Time') review of Paediatric Orthopaedics, and the Royal College ofSurgeons for the provision of acute and specialty services for children.

The actual initial job plan will be negotiated and agreed with the Clinical Lead and Clinical Director upon appointment and may vary according to the successful candidate's experience and the clinical needs of the department. It will be developed on an equitable basis, particularly in relation to patient-facing and flexible activities, access to theatre and clinic sessions, and the provision of cover for peripheral clinics.

Person specification Qualifications
- Full GMC Registration with license to practise
- MB ChB or equivalent FRCS (T&O) or equivalent
- Trained to level 3 children's safeguarding
- CCT or equivalent in orthopaedic surgery
- Comprehensive training in Paediatric Orthopaedic Surgery, and fellowship experience (or equivalent) as a paediatric orthopaedic fellow in a major unit
- Experience of formal and informal contributions to teaching and training.
- Good leadership skills. Evidence of ability to lead a clinical team at the level of a consultant in a teaching hospital.
- Effective administrative and time management skills. Training in clinical management.
- Evidence of ability to make decisions at consultant level and to manage complex clinical problems
- Good written English. Highly developed communication and interpersonal skills. Must be a good team player
- Evidence of effective and sustained contribution to clinical governance, clinical risk management and clinical audit activities
- Participation in clinical research GCP training or equivalent
