Job Description
Locum Consultant in Paediatric Immunology and Infectious Diseases

The closing date is 30 June 2026.

We are looking for a motivated and experienced paediatrician with sub specialist training in Immunology and Infectious Diseases to support and further develop our regional tertiary service.

This Consultant post will focus on delivering high quality care for children with immune deficiencies and complex infectious diseases across South Yorkshire and surrounding areas.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Provide inpatient and outpatient care for children with inborn errors of immunity and secondary immune deficiencies.
  • Participate in a 1:4 telephone advisory service for local Trusts, GPs, Jessop's neonatal unit, and DGHs.
  • Support delivery of immunoglobulin therapy following national guidelines and attend local/regional immunoglobulin panels.
  • Share care for children with retroviral infections and those undergoing TB screening and treatment.
  • Provide OPAT cover and contribute to antimicrobial stewardship initiatives.
  • Engage with the TRIAC consortium and support Trust wide service development goals.

Person Specification Professional Qualifications
  • MBBS or equivalent
  • MRCPCH or evidence of equivalent
  • Full and Specialist registration in Paediatric Immunology & Infectious Diseases (and with a licence to practice) with the General Medical Council (GMC), or be eligible for registration within 6 months of interview.
  • UK trained applicants must also be a holder of a Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) in Paediatric Immunology & Infectious Diseases (PIID), or be within six months of award of CCT in PIID by date of interview.
  • Non UK trained applicants must show evidence of equivalence to the UK CCT in PIID.
  • Portfolio Pathway (formerly CESR) applicants must be on the Specialist Register at the point of application.
  • Valid BLS Training
  • MD/PHD in Immunology or Infectious Diseases
  • Valid APLS and NLS
Academic Achievements / Research / Publications
  • Experience in research or management of children in clinical trials.
  • Evidence of interest in relevant specialist research.
Teaching
  • Experience in training undergraduate medical students and postgraduate doctors.
  • Specific training in education and/or appraisal.
Management / Audit
  • Experience in management, e.g., trainee rotas.
  • Clear involvement in audit projects, evidence of management of change.
  • Understanding of NHS management responsibilities of consultants.
  • Specific management training.
Experience
  • A minimum of 24 months experience in paediatric Immunology & Infectious Diseases.
Other Qualities
  • Able to work under own initiative and motivate/lead others.
  • Ability to work as a team with professional colleagues from medical and other disciplines.
