Job overview We are looking to recruit a Locum Consultant Neuro Interventional Radiologist on a 6-month fixed term contract.

Based in our Neuro Radiology Department at LTHTR, covering our 2 hospital sites: Royal Preston Hospital & Chorley District General Hospital.

Opportunities exist to join our regional neurosciences centre for Lancashire and South Cumbria; with the exciting opportunity to support the development and expansion of the Thrombectomy Service along with other recent major service developments which include accreditation as a major trauma centre and designation as a tertiary vascular centre.

We would like to invite you to be a part of our exciting personnel and recent service expansion of the Stroke Thrombectomy service, which includes installation of a 2 nd bi-planar Angio- suite.

The post holder will be expected to provide support for our comprehensive Interventional and Diagnostic neuroradiology service and will work alongside our existing team of neuroradiologists (6 of whom perform neuro intervention) and 1 head and neck radiologist.

Any person who is unable to work full-time for personal reasons may still be considered for the post.

Main duties of the job The post holder:
  • will be expected to support the provision of a comprehensive Neuroradiology service and work alongside the existing team of neuroradiologists, 6 of whom perform neuro-intervention, along with s upporting advanced neuro-imaging and head and neck radiology with reporting, MDT presentation.
  • in conjunction with colleagues, an active role in the planning, development and delivery of the neuro radiology service for the Directorate and associated Network. There is also an ongoing commitment to teaching SPRs who rotate through attachments within the Trust.
  • Support diagnostic neuroradiology colleagues in both IP and OP MRI/CT reporting. Also close working with colleagues in the wider neurosciences and radiology department is expected as part of the daily work.
  • Support the stroke thrombectomy service expansion.
  • Provide support for the local and Network neuroradiology MDTs.
There are also substantial opportunities for development or maintenance of other subspecialist interests.

The successful candidate will be expected to participate in a neuroradiology on call rota with 1:8 frequency under review .

Experience in head and neck radiology and advanced neuroimaging techniques is highly desirable.

Working for our organisation The Radiology Directorate comprises Radiology, Neuroradiology, Ultrasound, Vascular (general) Interventional Radiology, Chest Radiology, Nuclear Medicine, including SPECT scanning and Oncological Radiology. Mammography is performed at the Chorley and South Ribble Hospital site.

Person specification Qualifications
  • Full GMC Registration and License to Practice
  • FRCR or equivalent
  • CESR/CCT within 6 months
  • Past/Future Fellowship experience in neuroradiology
  • Experience of advanced neuro-imaging techniques
Experience and Skills
  • Experience in Neuro-Interventional Radiology as a first operator.
  • Experience of stroke intervention. Transcranial Doppler and Vasospasm management
  • Recent experience of on-call working.
  • Commitment to working as part of a clinical team
  • Teaching skills for both medical and paramedical disciplines.
  • Experience in MDT work in a tertiary neurosciences centre
  • Transradial interventional procedures
Management
  • Evidence of Clinical Leadership
  • Evidence of commitment to audit and improving clinical practice/service development
  • Ability to supervise and direct junior medical staff and other colleagues.
  • Management course/ certification.
Personal
  • Well-developed oral and written communication skills (with examples).
  • PLAB or equivalent standards.
  • Good proven organisation skills (with examples).
  • Works well within a multidisciplinary environment.
  • Resident within 30 minutes travel time to Chorley/Preston.
Research and Development
  • Evidence of interest in personal development e.g. through research and/or publications
  • Evidence of peer reviewed publications.
Health
  • Meets professional health requirements in line with GMC Standards/ Good Medical Practice
