The Department of Neuroradiology in Oxford is one of the foremost in the country with a high national profile, and a reputation for clinical excellence. This new post is required to meet ever increasing demand for both diagnostic and interventional neuroradiology services, including the service expansion to two interventional suites and the 24/7 thrombectomy service. The post holder's duties will be primarily at the West Wing and John Radcliffe Hospital but it is a condition of the appointment that the post holder will be willing to work in any of the Trust's locations.
Main duties of the job The post holder will take on a consultant role in the full range of craniospinal imaging, demonstrating broad diagnostic neuroradiology skills, independence in the core skills of neurointerventional practice and participate in the on-call system.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities The interventional service is supported by dedicated neuro-interventional nurses and radiographers. There are two dedicated neurovascular advanced clinical practitioners in post in the Neurosurgical department. There are weekly neurovascular MDT meetings and neurovascular clinics. There is a dedicated neurovascular surgical service supporting this workload. There is an increasingly busy neurointerventional service managing most neurovascular disorders in adults and children, the latter in conjunction with Great Ormond Street Hospital. The Neuroradiologists have access to day-case beds, intensive care and ward beds. There are 10 vascular GA lists per week, which is planned to expand with the second interventional suite. The job plan includes time for administrative duties; and there is a time "supplement" added to interventional lists to allow for direct patient care. The aim with the expansion is for all consultants to have one angiography list per week. The 24/7 thrombectomy service is now well established; the current on call rota for thrombectomy is 1:6 frequency.

Person specification Qualifications/Training
- Medical Degree
- FRCR or equivalent
- Full registration with GMC
- CCT in Radiology; or Registration on GMC Specialist Register in Radiology OR within six months of achieving CCT at the time of interview.
- Completed general training in radiology and in neuroradiology to specialist level or equivalent.
- Completed at least 36 months training (or be within 6 months of the end of this training) in recognized neuroradiology training post, with evidence of subspecialty training in interventional neuroradiology of at least one year.
- Higher Academic qualification e.g. MD, MS
- Further specialist fellowship in interventional neuroradiology
- Able to offer an expert neuroradiology opinion
- Able to participate in both diagnostic and interventional on call
- Able to perform core interventional procedures independently
- Evidence of ability to make decisions at consultant level and to manage complex clinical problems.
- Able to perform specialised neurointerventional procedures
- Effective administrative and time management skills.
- Knowledge of contemporary NHS management issues.
- Knowledge of political context within which we operate.
- Ability to work independently as well as part of the Core Clinical Services Directorate. Recognise that it is necessary to balance individual requirements against those of the Directorate and Trust as a whole.
