Grade: Consultant - NHS Medical & Dental

Contract: Locum 12 months

Hours: Full time (or part time)

Sessions: 10 per week (in accordance with job plan)

Location: John Radcliffe Hospital, Oxford

Salary: £113,565 - £150,569 per year

This role provides a comprehensive Haematological Histopathology service within the Oxford University Hospitals NHS Trust. The post is a replacement for a consultant within a team of specialists and involves performing or supervising diagnostic techniques, reporting cases, supporting clinical meetings, and contributing to team discussions.

Key responsibilities

• Perform or supervise cut ups, microscopy and other diagnostic techniques including digital pathology.
• Report haematological and related pathology cases in accordance with NHS standards.
• Support and lead multidisciplinary clinical meetings and case discussions.
• Provide specialist support in alternative pathology specialties when required.
• Participate in training, governance, audit and quality improvement activities.

Qualifications / Training

• FRCPath or equivalent.
• UK trained holders of a Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) or within six months of award; non UK trained must provide evidence of equivalence to UK CCT.
• Full and Specialist registration with the General Medical Council (GMC) when required.
• Specialist training in Haematological pathology (mandatory) and in other pathology (advantage).

Experience

• Independent reporting of complex haematological cases.
• Evidence of decision making at consultant level and management of complex clinical problems.

Skills and knowledge

• Leadership and support of team leadership.
• Effective administrative and time management skills, including clinical management training.
• Willingness to engage in NHS pathology management roles.
• Strong teamwork, communication and interpersonal abilities.
• Capability to share cases and seek second opinions appropriately.
• Experience in teaching and training contributions, formally and informally.
• Contribution to clinical governance, risk management and audit activities.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Good spoken and written English.
• Peer reviewed publications and research grant experience (if applicable).
