Locum Consultant in Diabetes and Endocrinology

Locum Consultant in Diabetes and Endocrinology. Fixed Term 12 Months, 10 PA (Maternity leave cover). Whipps Cross University Hospital.

Whipps Cross University Hospital, part of the Barts Health NHS Trust, is looking to recruit a full-time fixed term Consultant to join the Diabetes and Endocrinology team based on the Whipps Cross Hospital site. The appointee will work alongside 5 established Diabetes and Endocrine consultants at Whipps Cross University Hospital.

Responsibilities

The appointee will provide inpatient care for patients with metabolic and general medical problems, and outpatient care for patients with diabetes or endocrine presentations. There is a weekly radiology/clinical meeting, a weekly journal club, and a monthly governance meeting, which the post holder is expected to attend. The metabolic physicians are also part of the general medical rota. The post holder will be involved in the ongoing redevelopment of Whipps Cross Hospital over the next 5 years and will participate in reshaping services provision for patients.

Qualifications
  • GMC registration of adequate duration
  • MRCP or equivalent
  • Higher Research Degree
Relevant experience
  • Broad experience in diabetes and endocrine clinics and ward work
  • Excellent clinical skills
  • ALS certificate
  • Experience in conducting clinical trials
Clinical skills
  • Ability to work as part of a multi-disciplinary team - clinical and management
  • Ability to manage staff and resources effectively
  • Ability to communicate effectively with GPs and other professionals in hospital and community
  • DAFNE training including course observation
Knowledge
  • Detailed knowledge of Diabetes and Endocrinology and of the specialist skills required for this post
  • Knowledge of multi-disciplinary clinical audit and commitment to improving quality of care
  • Understanding of modern medical curricula and commitment to lifelong learning
Management and Audit skills
  • Interest in Medical Audit
  • Understanding of techniques to improve efficiency and productivity of clinical processes
Teaching skills
  • Ability to teach medical students and junior medical and nursing staff
Academic achievement
  • Good track record of research in a related field
  • Active research with evidence of grants or publishing peer reviewed articles
  • Evidence of successful presentations
Personal circumstances
  • Will live within 30 minutes of Whipps Cross Hospital
