Locum Consultant Haematologist - Myeloma & Stem Cell TransplantationWe are seeking a full time locum Consultant Haematologist with expertise in all aspects of myeloma and stem cell transplantation. This role may lead to a substantive post as the department expands.
Main Duties- Participate in weekly myeloma clinic as part of the multidisciplinary team and liaise with the transplant team for patients undergoing autologous stem cell transplant.
- Take part in the clinical transplant team, assessing patients for suitability, guiding them through the process and maintaining accreditation standards (JACIE, HTA).
- Serve on the white cell attending team, providing cover for haematological malignancy patients and transplant patients admitted to St George's Hospital.
- Work closely with the existing haematology oncology consultants to deliver a comprehensive, world class service.
- Provide consultant input for clinical and laboratory aspects of the service and collaborate with colleagues on inpatient and outpatient care.
- Co operate with the Day Unit team to deliver high quality care to haematology and transplant patients receiving outpatient treatment.
- Develop or continue sub specialised expertise within haematology and transplantation.
The appointee will maintain a high standard of clinical and laboratory haematology practice. Clinical commitments include inpatient, outpatient, daycare, laboratory, administration, teaching, audit, research and CPD, with on call duties as agreed.
On call arrangement: single on call (1:12) and specialist 2nd on call (1:7), subject to change.
Final timetable and non working days will be negotiated with the successful candidate.
Qualifications and Training- MRCP or equivalent.
- Full and specialist registration with the GMC, or eligible for registration within six months of interview.
- UK trained applicants must hold a Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) or be within six months of award; non UK trained applicants must provide evidence of equivalence.
- Experience across full range of laboratory haematology disciplines.
- Higher degree (MD, PhD) relevant to haematology, transplantation, or myeloma.
- FRCPath in Haematology or equivalent.
- Diagnostic and clinical haematology.
- Independent responsibility for haematology patients.
- Teaching and supervision of medical trainees.
- Allogeneic transplantation.
- Management of patients on clinical trials.
- Bone marrow aspirate/trephine, flow cytometry interpretation and other diagnostics.
- Independent care of myeloma, lymphoma and leukaemia patients.
- Leadership of multidisciplinary team meetings.
- Knowledge of CPA and MHRA processes.
- Familiarity with transplant eligibility criteria and registry liaison.
- Clinical governance participation and audit/quality improvement.
- Ongoing research interest; publications or presentations at national/international conferences.
- Active participation in myeloma or transplant clinical trials.
- Team working and leadership.
- Organise and manage clinical services.
- Willingness to undertake professional responsibilities at local, regional or national level.
- Service development or quality improvement projects.
- Budget management and change management.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Commitment to patient centred care and safety.
- Collaboration across specialties.
- Adaptability to change and uncertainty.
- Minimum six months working experience in myeloma or transplant service.
