Locally Employed Resident Doctor in Orthopaedics (ST1-2 level)

The Trauma & Orthopaedic Department delivers care across three sites. The appointees to this post are predominantly based at either the Doncaster Royal Infirmary or Bassetlaw Hospital. All Trauma Admissions occur at the Doncaster site whereas the Bassetlaw site is predominantly elective and also hosts patients repatriated from Doncaster.
The Locally Employed Resident Doctors are responsible for the care of patients in the Department for Trauma and Orthopaedics, including admission, clerking, day-to-day care, preparation for operation, treatment regimes, post-operative care and safe discharge.
- Contribution to emergency orthopaedic and trauma 'on-call' service. First on-call, clerk, admit patients from A&E, take referrals from GPs. Support and supervision from the on-call Registrar and Consultant.
- The on-call rota is based on a full shift system; the week of nights is split into 4 and 3 nights (Monday to Thursday and Friday to Sunday). 12 persons cover Doncaster and Bassetlaw sites. Dedicated 'on call' bleeps and ward cover; carry appropriate bleeps.
- Continuous care of orthopaedic in-patients: designated to work for named consultants, work flexibly with colleagues and share workload.
- Participation in Ward Rounds with appropriate Consultant. Attend outpatient and fracture clinics whenever possible.
The appointee is expected to undergo annual appraisal and must contribute to this process, which will inform revalidation and job planning. The appointee will actively participate in annual job planning.
The duties of the post may be changed with the agreement of the post holder.
The basic Job Plan consists of an average of 48 hours per week, and the post holder will work within teams supporting 3 consultants, supported by fully trained Advanced Clinical Practitioners.
You should attend daily trauma meetings at 8 am, attend lunchtime teaching programmes on Mondays and Tuesdays. You will participate actively in departmental audit and research.
Teaching: Participate in teaching medical students and nurse practitioners and contribute to departmental postgraduate educational and audit activities.
Research: Research is encouraged.
Clinical Governance / Audit: Participate in departmental audit and undertake an audit project during each placement.

Qualifications- MBChB/MBBs or equivalent
- Completion of Foundation 1/2 training or equivalent experience or Completion of core level training in (specialty)
- Applicants must have full GMC registration and continue to hold a License to Practice
- Advanced Life Support (ALS)
- Must demonstrate clinical experience and competence in Trauma & Orthopaedics expected of a doctor at ST 1/2 Level
- Previous experience in Trauma & Orthopaedics at ST1/2 equivalent grade/level
- Previous experience in Gen Medicine or Gen Surgery at CT/FT or ST1/2 level or equivalent
- Ability and willingness to learn from colleagues, senior and other sources.
- Experience of and enthusiasm for clinical teaching of medical students, junior colleagues and non-medical staff.
- Knowledge of Audit principles and evidence of participation in and completion of audit projects
