Life & Income Protection Insurance Apprenticeship Programme 2027

Location: Gloucester. Start date: September 2027. Salary: £23,000. Duration: Youll join us in a permanent role from day one while completing an 18-month development programme. Structure: Youre expected to work in the office at least 3-4 days per week at the start of your programme and you must live within a commutable distance. Your mandatory office days will reduce to 2 days per week once trained.

Our Life & Income Protection team helps individuals and families protect their financial future. Whether its providing financial support when someone becomes seriously ill, is unable to work due to injury or illness, or helping loved ones after a bereavement, our team helps customers make some of life's most important financial decisions.

Youll join a supportive and close-knit team, helping customers through their insurance applications while learning how advisors recommend the most suitable protection solutions.

Youll join Howden on a permanent role and complete an 18-month development programme designed to develop your technical knowledge, professional skills and confidence to kick start your career.

What youll be doing?

You will begin with a structured induction before joining our Life & Income Protection team, where you will work alongside experienced colleagues and gradually take on more responsibility.

  • Learn the foundation of insurance and customer service through hands-on experience and structured training.
  • Work alongside experienced advisors to understand how customer requirements are assessed and how appropriate insurance protection is recommended based on their individual needs.
  • Build rapport with our customers and help understand their background and medical history.
  • Keep accurate and up-to-date client records across multiple systems.
  • Deliver exceptional customer service and learn how to manage telephone conversations with professionalism and empathy.
  • Learn how to work with and build relationships with underwriters at insurance companies and support our advisors with chasing any missing information.

To be eligible for our apprenticeship, you must:
  • Have the full and unrestricted right to work in the UK.
  • Have lived permanently in the UK for the last 3 years.
  • Have achieved a grade C/4 in GCSE English and Maths.
  • Not already hold a qualification that significantly overlaps with the content of this apprenticeship.
