Legal Director - Professional Indemnity (National Team)

Location: Manchester

Department: Insurance - Professional Indemnity

Clyde & Co is seeking an experienced Legal Director to join its National Professional Indemnity team, one of the largest and most respected PI practices in the UK market. This senior role requires a technically excellent lawyer with strong client facing skills, capable of managing complex, high value claims and contributing to the strategic development of the national practice.

Responsibilities
  • Advising insurers and insureds on complex professional indemnity claims, including coverage, defense strategy, policy interpretation and reserving issues.
  • Handling high value and sensitive matters across a broad range of professions (construction, law, accounting, surveying, architecture, engineering and consulting).
  • Managing claims from inception through to resolution, including litigation, mediation and settlement.
  • Acting as a trusted adviser to key insurer and broker clients, developing strong, long term relationships.
  • Supervising, mentoring and developing junior lawyers within the team, ensuring consistent quality and technical excellence.
  • Supporting partners with business development, including client pitches, panel tenders, thought leadership and client training.
  • Contributing to the strategic growth and profile of the National PI practice, including innovation, process improvement and knowledge sharing initiatives.
Qualifications
  • Qualified solicitor in England & Wales or equivalent common law jurisdiction.
  • Significant post qualification experience in professional indemnity insurance, ideally within a leading insurance, commercial or disputes practice.
  • Strong technical expertise in PI policy wordings, coverage issues and claims handling.
  • Proven ability to manage complex, high value matters with a high degree of autonomy.
  • Excellent client handling skills with a commercial and solutions focused approach.
  • Experience mentoring junior lawyers and contributing positively to team culture.
  • Interest in business development and practice growth.
