At Aegon, we strive in creating a diverse organisation that plays a meaningful role in driving greater equity, inclusion and belonging.We're looking for a Legal Counsel to join our team - someone who can provide high quality legal insight, represent our organisation in key forums, and shape how we navigate disputes and regulatory challenges.In this role, you'll act as a trusted adviser, working across all areas of the business to deliver expert guidance on litigation, dispute resolution, regulation and pensions matters. You'll help ensure the Group fulfils its commercial aims responsibly, effectively and with confidence. Key Responsibilities include: Provide clear, actionable legal and technical advice on dispute resolution across the business, supporting informed decision making. Advise colleagues at all levels to help prevent issues escalating to Court, the Ombudsman or the Pensions Regulator. Guide the business through processes and requirements when cases do progress externally, helping minimise reputational risk. Interpret and advise on guidance and reporting requirements from the Pensions Regulator. When needed, select and manage external legal advisers to ensure expert and cost effective support. Represent Aegon professionally in Court, in Ombudsman matters, mediations and with the Pensions Regulator. We'd love to hear from you if you have: Qualification as a solicitor or advocate/barrister in Scotland and/or England. Solid understanding of dispute resolution, contract law and the regulatory landscape, including the Pensions Regulator. Background in litigation, contentious complaints or Ombudsman matters within Financial Services or pensions. Experience drafting high quality legal documents such as court papers and settlement agreements. Proven experience engaging with the Pensions Regulator and navigating its regulatory frameworks to support regulatory compliance. Excellent communication skills and the confidence to advise stakeholders at all levels, including senior leaders. Strong analytical ability with sound judgement, able to interpret complex issues and deliver clear, practical advice. Proven ability to balance legal and commercial considerations, negotiate effectively, and manage external legal partners. We're serious about your future and our enhanced pension scheme is now in place. We ask you to contribute 3% of your salary to your pension and we'll put in 9%. If you decide to contribute more, we'll match it up to a combined total of 20% of your salary (that's 7% from you and 13% from us).
