About the role:HeliosX is looking to hire a Legal Counsel to report into our Head of Legal. The ultimate objective of the role is to safeguard the company's interests and ensure our strategy is informed by a clear understanding of regulatory/compliance risk and opportunity through strategic, results orientated legal advice. We are seeking someone with experience in an in-house legal function to work with various stakeholders across the business to resolve legal issues and mitigate risks. HeliosX is at a vital stage in its growth journey. This is an exciting opportunity to join the newly formed legal team with lots of opportunity for autonomy and impact in supporting the business.

This is a full time, permanent role with hybrid working. You will be expected on site in our offices in Central London twice per week, with the rest of the time spent working from home.

What you'll be doing:

• Provide commercially focused legal advice on a broad range of matters including product development, data usage, AI and automated decision making as well as general procurement matters.
• Implement AI strategies and legal processes including advising the business on associated risks. It's vital we stay on top of emerging technologies and tools.
• Advise on AI implementation ensuring compliance with UK, US and EU regulations.
• Stay abreast of regulatory developments in healthtech, ecommerce, privacy and AI across the UK, EU and US.
• Identify legal risk early and devise appropriate mitigation strategies for the business and relevant stakeholders.
• Draft, review, and negotiate a wide variety of contracts, including technology, digital media, procurement, and partnership/advertising agreements.
• Provide expert input into the development and review of terms involving strategic use of data and privacy impact.
• Manage and coordinate external legal counsel and ensure cost-effective delivery.
• Support the Head of Legal in running the day to day operation of the Legal Function.
• Partner with commercial stakeholders across all levels to support business goals.
• Translate complex legal frameworks into clear, actionable guidance for non-legal teams. You'll be working with various teams across the business consistently, this will be a significant part of the role.
• Lead legal elements of cross functional product and procurement projects.

Who you are:

Experience:

• Legally qualified with the right to practice in England and Wales (or equivalent).
• Minimum of 4 years' PQE, including at least 2 years of in-house experience.
• CIPP/E, CIPP/M, CIPP or equivalent privacy certification is essential for this role.
• Experience within the healthtech, ecommerce or any regulated sectors is highly desirable.
• Strong grounding in privacy and AI legal frameworks, particularly in product and data contexts.
• Proven ability to provide clear, practical, and business aligned legal advice.
• Experience working in a scale up or smaller company environment is highly desirable.

Skills:

• Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to influence and adapt across different audiences, the ability to distill complex legal terminology into simpler terms is essential.
• Excellent understanding of AI regulation and its application to digital product development.
• Strong analytical thinking skills, excellent judgement and the ability to deal with ambiguity.
• Excellent project and time management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities under pressure.
