About us

UCL STEaPP is an interdisciplinary department with a vision to transform, through strong partnerships and communities, the relationship between science, technology, engineering and public policy in order that society fully benefits from our evolving knowledge and understanding.

About the role

The new Lecturer (Teaching) will teach primarily on the BSc Science and Engineering for Social Change, the (online) MSc and How to Change the World programme, while also contributing to the programmes' development. They will have opportunities to hold other key academic leadership roles within the department as appropriate.

About you

The role requires a candidate with a PhD or equivalent professional experience relevant to science, technology, engineering and public policy, and a strong track record of innovative, inclusive and reflective research led teaching at undergraduate and postgraduate levels with demonstrable impact. The post holder should be committed to high quality student support and engagement across both online and in person provision, with experience delivering problem and project based learning, including projects in collaboration with external partners. Essential experience includes working with diverse practitioner communities-such as policymakers, industry and the voluntary sector and successfully collaborating with academic colleagues on departmental or institution wide education initiatives. The role also demands strong technical literacy, the ability to design high quality teaching materials for online and on campus delivery, excellent communication and interpersonal skills for teaching core academic competencies, and demonstrated flexibility, organisational capability, and effective time and partnership management.

What we offer

As well as the exciting opportunities this role presents we also offer some great benefits such as 41 days holiday (including 27 days annual leave, 8 bank holidays and 6 closure days), a defined benefit career average revalued earnings pension scheme (CARE), a cycle to work scheme and season ticket loan, an on site nursery, an on site gym, enhanced maternity, paternity and adoption pay, and an employee assistance programme.

Our commitment to Equality, Diversity and Inclusion

As London's Global University, we know diversity fosters creativity and innovation, and we want our community to represent the diversity of the world's talent. We are committed to equality of opportunity, to being fair and inclusive, and to being a place where we all belong. We therefore particularly encourage applications from candidates who are likely to be underrepresented in UCL's workforce. These include people from Black, Asian and ethnic minority backgrounds; disabled people; LGBTQI+ people; and for our Grade 9 and 10 roles, women. Our department is working towards an Athena SWAN award and you can read more about our commitment to Equality, Diversity and Inclusion here:
