Job Description
Overview

The School of Mechanical, Aerospace and Civil Engineering seeks to appoint a Lecturer in Aerospace Engineering to support teaching on the programme and advance the school's Aerospace research.

Responsibilities
  • Full teaching duties, research, and leadership in line with the University's Academic Career Pathway Framework.
  • Disseminate research findings through publications and conference presentations, achieving at least one internationally excellent peer reviewed output in any rolling three year period.
  • Secure and manage research income from a variety of funding streams, in line with departmental norms.
  • Attract and supervise high quality research staff and PhD students, aiming to complete one internal and one external PhD every three years.
  • Ensure research impact on the economy, society, culture, public policy, or services, through public engagement, patents, consultancy, and policy engagement.
  • Design, deliver, assess, and evaluate high quality teaching programmes, including study material development and timely student feedback.
  • Provide personal tutor and pastoral support to undergraduate and postgraduate students.
  • Contribute to curriculum design and enhancement, ensuring accessibility, inclusion, and compliance with quality standards and accreditation requirements.
  • Continuously improve teaching practice and undertake professional development to enhance pedagogic knowledge and impact.
  • Foster academic citizenship through administration, committee participation, and support for the wider university community.
  • Demonstrate leadership in challenging established practice and making accountable, creative decisions that drive positive change.
  • Embed sustainability, ethical decision making, and the University's sustainability strategy into all work.
Essential qualifications
  • PhD (or equivalent experience) in Aerospace Engineering or a closely related area.
  • Strong publication record in peer reviewed journals, with evidence of research impact.
  • Experience in securing research funding and a proven independent research programme that aligns with the School's strengths.
  • Experience training undergraduates and postgraduates, including practical and project based teaching.
  • Relevant teaching qualification for higher education.
  • Excellent communication, analytical, leadership, and teamwork skills.
  • Supportive and tolerant communication style with colleagues, students, and external collaborators.
Desirable qualifications
  • Experience in preparing grant applications and securing diverse sources of funding.
  • Industry experience, ideally within an Aerospace field.
  • Experience in project based teaching.
