Are you passionate about supporting young people to overcome barriers to learning and make positive changes in their behaviour?
Tradewind Recruitment are currently seeking a Learning Mentor - Behaviour Support to join a welcoming school in the Ipswich area of Suffolk. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Learning Mentor, Behaviour Mentor, Teaching Assistant or similar professional who is confident supporting pupils with challenging behaviour, SEMH needs and barriers to learning.
The RoleAs a Learning Mentor, you will play a key role in helping pupils to manage their behaviour, develop positive relationships and re-engage with education. You will work closely with teaching staff and the wider pastoral team to provide targeted support to pupils who require additional guidance.
- Providing 1:1 and small-group support to pupils experiencing behavioural, emotional and social difficulties.
- Building positive, trusting relationships with pupils and acting as a consistent and supportive role model.
- Supporting pupils to regulate their emotions and manage challenging behaviour.
- Helping pupils to develop positive attitudes towards learning and improve their engagement in school.
- Using appropriate de-escalation and behaviour management strategies when required.
- Supporting pupils who may display challenging or disruptive behaviour.
- Working alongside teachers, pastoral staff and the SEN team to identify barriers to learning and put appropriate support in place.
- Encouraging pupils to develop confidence, resilience, independence and self-esteem.
- Supporting pupils during lessons, social times and periods when they may require additional intervention.
- Maintaining accurate records of interventions, progress and behaviour where required.
- Contributing to a positive, inclusive and supportive school environment.
The successful candidate will ideally have previous experience working with children or young people who present challenging behaviour, SEMH needs or additional learning needs.

- Youth Worker
- Support Worker
- Pastoral Support Worker
- Residential Support Worker
- Sports Coach or similar role
Most importantly, you will be calm, patient, resilient and confident when dealing with challenging situations. You will have the ability to build strong relationships with young people while maintaining clear and consistent boundaries. Experience of SEMH, behaviour support, restorative approaches, de-escalation or safeguarding would be highly desirable.
