Lead/Senior Forward Deployed Engineer - Generative AI - Remote in UK or Ireland.

Work directly with enterprise clients and C-level stakeholders building cutting-edge B2B Generative AI systems.

This is a Lead/Senior Software Engineer role with an external client facing aspect (Forward Deployed). The Lead role sits just below Principal Engineer level - ideal for a hands-on Technical Lead, Staff Engineer, or very Senior Software Engineer ready to shape real-world GenAI solutions for major organisations.

Before you read the rest of the Lead Forward Deployed Engineer job description, please note the non-negotiable experience you must have:

• Highly experienced, strong software engineer with full stack experience at Lead or very Senior level.
• You have external client experience, ie you have worked on enterprise projects for external clients, & you have communicated with external client senior management.
• You have AI experience either commercially or if not commercially, you must have a strong personal interest in Generative AI, eg personal GenAI projects, keeping on top of AI developments, and be very interested in AI.

You will work on greenfield GenAI enterprise level project where you will experience interesting variety in your engineering work.

Must-Have Markers for Lead Forward Deployed Engineer Gen AI

You'll need to show real-world commercial experience in all three:

• Deep Engineering Expertise - Building and scaling complex software systems. Full Stack Engineer
• External Client-Facing Expertise - Proven track record working directly with enterprise customers, including senior and C-level decision makers; this experience is essential for the role.
• Generative AI Experience or Passion - Practical experience or genuine enthusiasm for applying AI to business problems.

The Role:

• Partner with client stakeholders to identify challenges and design impactful GenAI-powered solutions.
• Lead discovery sessions, workshops, and translate business needs into technical direction.
• Rapidly prototype Generative AI solutions and scale them into production.
• Make key architectural and design decisions.
• Mentor engineers and uphold engineering excellence.
• Collaborate across data, ML, and product teams to deliver integrated, high-impact results.

Experience & Skills You Bring:

• Lead or very senior experience in software engineering (full-stack or systems).
• Proven record engaging enterprise clients and C-level stakeholders.
• Strong architectural and communication skills.
• Experience mentoring or leading small teams.
• Curiosity and hands-on interest in Generative AI tools and frameworks.

While the role is remote within the UK or Ireland only. You must be living in the UK or in Ireland, be legally able to work in the UK or Ireland and travel internationally if required.
