Lead Software Development Engineer - Services About this role

Capital One is seeking a Senior Software Development Engineer to join a backend team in our London office on a hybrid basis.

What you'll do
  1. Lead a team or cross-functional squad in delivering complex projects supporting broader business outcomes.
  2. Take end-to-end responsibility for technical design, implementation, and operational considerations.
  3. Collaborate with engineers, architects, product owners, and stakeholders to ensure successful outcomes.
  4. Support the elevation of engineering enablement, excellence, and experience across the engineering community.
  5. Develop and disseminate best practices, tools, patterns, and frameworks to enhance productivity and quality.
  6. Focus on a significant portion of existing or new team software, such as components, features, or services.
  7. Work towards the goals and vision shared by Product Management and Tribe Leadership.
  8. Innovate within your team and contribute within your technical domain.
What we're looking for
  1. Proven experience in technical leadership, including leading a team or squad.
  2. Experience working with backend services and mobile technologies.
  3. Exceptional programming skills, especially in building APIs with modern OO languages like Java, and knowledge of SOLID principles, SOA, HTTP, and REST.
  4. Experience with AWS and cloud-based development.
  5. Designing secure, scalable architectures.
  6. Effective communication and collaboration skills to maximize inner-sourcing and reduce waste.
  7. Proven ability to deliver high-quality applications at scale.
  8. Advocacy for quality, supporting teams with practices like Pair Programming, TDD, and BDD.

This is a permanent position based in our London office with a hybrid working model, working from the office 3 days a week (Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays).
