The Opportunity

We have a fantastic opportunity for a permanent Lead Senior Project Manager to join our Consulting Rail Design team in Cardiff.

This will supporting our growing project management team, delivering work on our major projects such as Cardiff Crossrail. The Cardiff Crossrail project represents a major step forward in connecting key parts of the city by rail. Amey has been appointed as the Principal Designer Advisor delivering the Preliminary and Detailed design phases for this transformative tramway initiative, aiming to establish a direct rail link between Cardiff Central railway station and Cardiff Bay, creating seamless connections for passengers.

The role

Our Lead Senior Project Managers play an important part within the Rail Design team and alongside our clients. The Cardiff Crossrail Design Delivery Lead Senior Project Manager is responsible for overseeing the design phases of a transport project in Cardiff under NEC4 contract conditions. This position coordinates the integration of multi-disciplinary designs, manages strategic programme activities, engages with stakeholders, maintains budget controls, and applies risk management strategies.

Responsibilities include:

  • To lead a team to produce technically sound project management deliverables, complying with all relevant technical standards and client requirements
  • The preparation, checking and maintenance of project management related information that enables Amey Consulting commissions to be delivered whilst satisfying the overarching criteria of quality, cost and programme.
  • Overseeing the actions of more junior members of staff undertaking similar tasks and taking responsibility for their actions
  • Responsibility for the commercial success of the projects within their portfolio, controlling budgets and managing the costs associated with the production of deliverables
  • Liaising with client and supplier representatives at peer level, attending progress meetings, responding to queries etc.
  • Significantly contributing to the preparation of bids and the general work winning function
  • Assuming the role of people manager when required by the business
  • Drive effective health and safety practices within the team
What you will bring to us:
  • Developed experience and expertise within the field of Project Management, probably gained in a Senior Project Management role or equivalent
  • Experienced in undertaking project related tasks associated with the management of health, safety and welfare, e.g. Amey's Integrated Management System and the Construction (Design and Management) Regulations
  • Capable of acting as day to day main project management contact for a project where required under the terms of the commission
  • Can take ownership for the preparation and checking of deliverables to a reasonable standard
  • Highly experienced with project management software and similar analytical tools
  • Demonstrates good commercial awareness
  • Demonstrates a good understanding of interface management
  • Successful completion of either the professional review or end point assessment, resulting in the award of Incorporated or Chartered status or an equivalent professional licence
  • Bachelor's or Master's Degree in an appropriate subject
  • Full membership of the Association for Project Management
  • Chartered Project Professional (ChPP) status with the Association for Project Management
