  • Hybrid working: we spend 2 days together a week, with this role based in our Manchester Spinningfields office.

As a Lead Platform Engineer, you'll shape the backbone of our engineering ecosystem-designing and evolving the platforms that power our products at scale. You'll lead technical strategy, champion best practices, and enable teams to deliver faster, safer, and smarter. This is a hands-on leadership role where you'll influence architecture, mentor engineers, and drive innovation in cloud infrastructure, automation, and developer experience.

You'll guide the evolution of our database products, ensuring secure, performant, and developer-friendly data services, while leading the team through design, delivery, and operational excellence.

Our Technology

Our platform underpins critically important services, designed for security, scalability, and developer efficiency. We leverage AWS, container orchestration (ECS), and infrastructure-as-code (Terraform, CDK) to deliver resilient, automated environments. Observability is powered by DataDog, and we're embracing AI-driven tooling (GitHub Copilot, ChatGPT) to accelerate delivery and improve quality. You'll help us evolve this ecosystem to support rapid growth and innovation.

How you'llspendyour day:
  • Lead & Inspire: Set technical direction, mentor engineers, and foster a culture of excellence.
  • Data Excellence:Champion best practices in database design, enable self-serve tools for developers, and drive smart, scalable data decisions across the Group.
  • Design & Deliver: Architect and implement scalable, secure platform solutions that empower product teams.
  • Innovate & Improve: Drive continuous improvement in automation, observability, and developer experience.
  • Collaborate & Influence: Partner with Product, Security, and Engineering leaders to align platform strategy with business goals.
Whatvalueyou'll bring to the role:
  • Proven experience leading platform or infrastructure engineering teams in a cloud-native environment, with specific experience in data engineering.
  • Deep expertise in AWS, infrastructure-as-code (Terraform/CDK), and container orchestration.
  • Strong understanding of database technologies (MongoDB, relational DBs) and data modelling.
  • Passion for automation, observability, and improving developer experience.
  • Comfortable leveraging AI tools to accelerate delivery and improve quality.
  • Excellent communicator who can influence technical and non-technical stakeholders.
