As Lead Nurse, you will be central to both clinical care and team leadership, acting as the primary contact for clinical and safeguarding concerns. The role balances hands-on clinical responsibilities with strategic oversight and supports both the OH and Wellbeing Operations Manager and the in-house Occupational Health Physician in delivering a proactive, high-quality health service.

  • Conduct a range of clinical assessments including routine periodic medicals, management referrals, health surveillance, site visits, workplace health risk assessments, and pre-employment medicals with drug and alcohol testing

  • Act as Clinical Lead for the Occupational Health team, working in partnership with the in-house Occupational Health Physician to manage complex cases and oversee clinical triage

  • Lead all clinical aspects of the Occupational Health service, ensuring safe, high-quality, and person-centred care through expert oversight and continuous guidance

  • Play a key role in delivering strategic health priorities, including physical and psychological health, screening, surveillance, and vaccination programmes

  • Coordinate daily operations of the Occupational Health department in collaboration with the OH & Wellbeing Operations Manager

  • Lead on clinical governance and risk management, including responsibility for IT systems and service improvement initiatives such as the selection and implementation of new OH software

  • Maintain accurate, confidential health records within the OH system and issue relevant certificates and reports to employees and management

  • Conduct regular clinical audits and reviews, supporting and promoting internal policies and procedures

  • Deliver structured mentorship, targeted training, and professional supervision to foster best clinical practices and support SEQOHS accreditation

  • Provide guidance and referrals to specialist support services, including counsellors, physiotherapists, and consultants

  • Contribute to the design and delivery of health and wellbeing initiatives and events

  • Organise and host professional site visits, including occasional night-time visits during maintenance work, and facilitate exchange visits with French OH colleagues.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Registered Nurse with valid NMC (SCPHN) registration

  • Postgraduate qualification in Occupational Health Nursing (degree or diploma) preferred

  • Minimum of 3 years' experience in a similar environment, ideally within Occupational Health

  • Strong leadership and mentoring experience, including team supervision and performance management

  • Knowledge of occupational health and employment legislation and best practices

  • Experience with pre-employment drug and alcohol testing, preferably in the railway or transport sectors

  • Skilled in using and developing Occupational Health software systems

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Outlook, Teams)

  • Solid understanding of safeguarding, clinical governance, medical confidentiality, and GDPR

  • Knowledge of UK Health & Safety law

  • Experience in developing and delivering health campaigns

  • Trained to administer vaccinations

  • Ability to analyse OH system data and produce management reports (e.g., statistics, trends)

  • Strong interpersonal and influencing skills; able to build effective relationships at all levels

  • Empathetic, collaborative, and committed to improving patient satisfaction and experience

  • Confident working independently with a proactive and resilient approach

  • Qualified First Aider (beneficial but not essential)

  • High-level verbal and written communication skills

  • Basic understanding of spoken and written French is an advantage.

Person Specification

  • Full-time role based on the Eurotunnel site, with limited ad-hoc home working possible

  • Working hours: Monday to Friday, with occasional weekend availability required
