Lead Java Developer - Government Sector (Manchester or Leeds)

Job Title: Lead Java Developer
Location: Manchester, Leeds or Newcastle (Leeds preferred/2 days per week on-site)
Salary/Rate: Up to £750 per day (Inside IR35)
Start Date: October 2025
Job Type: 12-month contract inside

*Candidates must be eligible for BPSS & SC Clearance*

Company Introduction:

A lead Java Developer is required for a government sector client for an exciting 12-month contract (Candidates can either work from, Manchester, Leeds or Newcastle - Leeds preferred)

Job Responsibilities/Objectives:

1. Lead or direct a team of Java Developers.

2. Build a useful, robust automated test suite to support a continuous deployment environment, implementing API's for internal and external use.

3. Take part in 2nd-line support of applications and platforms and help build Server Side web applications. Be able to communicate technical concepts to a non-technical audience.

4. Maintain system administration and configuration management skills with experience in handling large data sets and scaling their handling and storage.

5. Build a high-traffic website and maintain an understanding of web architecture.

6. Knowledge of Unix-like operating systems such as Linux and/or Mac OS X

Required Skills/Experience:
The ideal candidate will have the following:

1. Hands-on development experience with Java
2. Experience leading or directing a team of Java developers
3. BPSS clearance eligibility
4. Experience working for/with Government sector clients
