We're looking for an enthusiastic and talented Lead Interaction Designer to join our User-Centred Design team to support digital products and services in the Primary, Community and Mental Health directorate.
As a Lead Interaction Designer who is user-centred, you will specialise in working out the best way to let users interact with services, in terms of both overall flow and at the level of individual design elements, across more complex services. You will understand the way the internet works, have experience of designing in an agile environment and be driven to help DHCW transform the way it delivers services so that they are simpler, faster and easier to use.
Putting users' needs at the heart of your work, you will make people's interactions with our products and services accessible and as simple as possible.

Main duties of the jobAs a Lead Interaction Designer, you will:
Utilise research to lead the design of user-centred services, ensuring they meet user needs and NHS Wales digital standards.
Work closely with researchers, developers, product managers, and policy teams to develop concepts and design accessible, usable interactions.
Plan and facilitate design workshops, critiques, and collaborative sessions to develop and improve service journeys.
Mentor other designers, support design quality across teams, and contribute to the wider design community - setting direction and embedding good practice within teams.

Job responsibilitiesAs a Lead Interaction Designer you will be an expert practitioner, you will:
lead and coordinate design work in your team and design solutions that meet user needs
use research and analytics to understand policy areas and users needs, identify service failures and test different designs
design collaboratively and in the open, using wireframes and prototypes (both high and low fidelity) to engage your team and stakeholders with the design process and adapting it if necessary
champion accessibility and inclusion, consider the impact of change: new policies and technologies, and ensure that designs meet legal requirements
work effectively in a multidisciplinary, agile environment, adapting quickly to constraints and changes in requirements, priorities or user needs
take a leading role in the User-Centred Design community of practice - guiding, supporting and mentoring other designers
Person Specification Qualifications and Knowledge- A master's degree in an associated professional field (or equivalent qualification / experience).
- Practical experience, working at this level in interaction design, across a range of products and services.
- Evidence of continuous professional development.
- Theoretical and specialist knowledge, gained with the following certifications (or equivalent): o BCS Practitioner Certificate in Systems Design o BCS Foundation Certificate in Agile.
- Experience in a designer role at a similar level, working collaboratively in a multi-disciplinary team to develop design concepts and accessible solution across a range of channels.
- Experience of interpreting evidence-based research and incorporating this into your work, understanding how this research impacts others.
- Proficiency in using design principles to ensure systems are usable, accessible, and effective for people with diverse abilities and contexts.
- Proficient in developing and testing wireframes and prototypes to reduce risk and ensure solutions meet user and organisational needs.
- Interpersonal skills to build respectful and trusting relationships with a wide range of people, using inclusive communication.
- Teamwork to work openly and supportively with others and help create a team where everyone feels able to contribute.
- Decision-making skills to make good choices by weighing priorities, risks, and impacts, and working with others for fair outcomes.
- Customer focus to put user needs at the heart of decisions and deliver fair, inclusive outcomes.
- Influence and impact to work positively and empathetically with others to support shared goals and actions.
