Development Lead (PHP)
Location: Hybrid (Wakefield office, once a week)
Salary: £60,000 - £75,000 + bonus opportunities
Are you ready to become a trusted technical voice for clients and a driving force within a talented web team? My client are looking for a Team Leader (PHP) to join their growing consultancy. You'll guide technical decisions, champion best practices, and help them to deliver exceptional solutions across a wide range of bespoke web applications.

You'll guide technical decisions, champion best practices, and help them to deliver exceptional solutions across a wide range of bespoke web applications.
What You'll Do:
- Lead client meetings and calls with clarity, confidence, and technical insight
- Deeply understand client systems, recommending performance and reliability improvements
- Stay hands-on with development work (JavaScript, PHP, React)
- Contribute to presales, scope technical solutions, and shape proposals
- Collaborate with project managers to prioritise and deliver effectively
- Mentor and support your team with code reviews, 1:1s, and career guidance
- Drive high standards in code quality, maintainability, and performance
- Use your dedicated L&D time to explore emerging tech (eg, AI, cloud tools)
- Strong web development experience with JavaScript, PHP, and React
- Proven ability to assess and improve large-scale, business-critical applications
- Excellent client communication and stakeholder management skills
- Experience leading or mentoring developers in a technical team
- Commitment to clean, high-performing code
- Skilled in Git, Agile and/or Waterfall workflows
- Excellent problem-solving, planning, and communication skills
Nice to have:
- Experience in a software consultancy environment
- Familiarity with cloud services, especially AWS
