Lead Cloud Engineer

Hybrid Working - London - 2 days a week on site.

Lorien's leading banking client is looking for a Lead Cloud Engineer to lead their engineering teams on a long-term Infrastructure Modernisation Programme.

You'll work within empowered engineering teams to build secure, automated, and observable infrastructure platforms that support critical banking applications, data services, and customer journeys aligned to the business platform and broader Commercial & Institutional applications.

This day to day of this role will be:

• Design and implement cloud infrastructure (compute, storage, networking, observability) using the business engineering standards and controls.
• Build and maintain CI/CD pipelines using tools like Terraform Enterprise, GitLab and Python.
• Embed security by design principles, ensuring compliance with regulatory and internal risk frameworks.
• Lead engineering efforts in specialist domains such as container platforms, data services, or cloud networking.
• Collaborate with architecture, cyber, and platform teams to deliver resilient and scalable solutions

This role is based in London.

This role will be Via Umbrella.

Working in a Hybrid Model of 2 days a week on site.

• Hands on experience with cloud platforms, ideally with GCP but AWS and Azure experience is also very relevant.
• Proven track record building CI/CD pipelines and infrastructure as code.
• Experience developing and supporting production grade applications in languages such as Java, Python or C#.
• Technical leadership in a specialist domain (e.g., containers, data platforms, cloud networking).
• Experience working in regulated environments with a focus on security and compliance.
• Solid understanding of cloud infrastructure fundamentals: Compute Engine, Cloud Networking
• Experience with container orchestration, Kubernetes, Istio and GKE in particular.
• Knowledge of cloud native storage: GCS, S3 and filer solutions.
• Exposure to data services: Cloud SQL, managed databases, MongoDB.
• Messaging systems: Kafka, RabbitMQ and EMS; API gateways like Apigee.
• Observability tools: Prometheus, Grafana, Cloud Monitoring.
• IAM and secrets management: dynamic secrets, Vault.
• Test driven development and automated testing frameworks.
• Several years of real world cloud engineering experience.
