Lead Clinical Academic Pharmacist

University College London Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust

Fixed term opportunity to 31 August 2030 due to secondment

This is an exciting opportunity to develop as a clinical academic research leader. The role involves working with the Director of CMORE to deliver the pharmacy department strategy objective to promote and build research capacity across pharmacy. The Lead Clinical Academic Pharmacist will act as an expert and role model for developing clinical academic research skills, in line with national priorities for the pharmacy profession.

Main duties of the job
  • Working with the CMORE Director, the post holder will engage and support pharmacy staff to develop research skills across all grades and staff groups.
  • Be responsible for leading and developing education and training materials for research skills, in collaboration with partner organisations including UCL and local NIHR research centres; infrastructure (such as the Central London Patient Safety Research Centre).
  • Ensure academic output in terms of research funding, conference presentations and peer reviewed publications.

Person Specification Knowledge and Qualifications
  • Masters or equivalent degree in pharmacy, approved by the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC)
  • GPhC registration
  • Postgraduate diploma in clinical pharmacy or equivalent
  • Postgraduate doctorate (or PhD) or publication equivalent
  • Knowledge of licensing authorities and the licensing of investigational products, medical devices and IMP
Experience
  • Experience of providing advanced level pharmaceutical care to patients in secondary care
  • Experience of supervising others, including for research and audit projects
  • Experience of research and development co-ordination for health service projects or programmes
  • Experience of writing research proposals and applying for funding grants
  • Track record of peer-reviewed publications.
  • Track record of supervising formal research degrees.
Skills and Abilities
  • Hold advanced critical appraisal skills.
  • To be able to evaluate outcomes of programmes of change.
Communication
  • Be able to provide highly complex information on medicines use and research to local, regional and national organisations and at national/international conferences
  • Able to communicate effectively in academic writing (peer-reviewed publication).
  • Be able to communicate effectively in both written and verbal formats with staff and patients.
  • Be able to use advanced presentational programmes
Responsibilities towards promoting Equality Diversity and Inclusion
