The Faculty of Health and Life Sciences is looking to fill the vacancy of the Environmental Sciences laboratory technician in their state-of-the-art teaching labs. The successful candidate will join our small friendly team of highly skilled dedicated technicians supporting teaching in the faculty through the design of teaching sessions, preparation of materials and by helping students in their practical learning experiences.

You will primarily be involved in the Biology practicals and field trips for undergraduate and postgraduate students but may also help with chemistry-based practicals in other subjects, such as Biochemistry/Biomed and Nutrition and the maintenance of invertebrate stocks, when needed. You will play a crucial role in ensuring a safe and effective laboratory environment while promoting academic excellence and scientific inquiry among our students.

We are also looking for someone who will become a part of our small but efficient technical team, and who will be happy sharing team responsibilities, as well as bringing their unique knowledge and experience.

The minimum requirements for this post are:

  • Experience in Environmental Sciences, ideally in higher education laboratory settings, combined with knowledge of analytical equipment

  • Experience in laboratory health and safety documentation and procedures, and ability to demonstrate an understanding of health and safety in a laboratory

  • Excellent communication and practical skills

  • Ability and willingness to work as part of a team, but also able and willing to work on own initiative and learn new skills.
