Laboratory Technician

Introduction

Are you looking to gain hands-on experience in a fast-paced microbiology lab environment? A growing food testing laboratory in the region of Ghent is urgently seeking motivated lab technicians to support their microbiology team. You'll play a key role in ensuring food and water safety through accurate and timely sample analysis.

Practical Information

• Location: Ghent, Belgium
• Contract duration: 3 to 6 months, with possibility for extension to permanent.
• Start date: As soon as possible

Key Responsibilities

• Support the daily operations of the microbiology laboratory
• Handle and process food and water samples following established procedures
• Ensure accurate documentation and timely reporting of results
• Maintain a high level of precision and hygiene in all tasks
• Receive and register samples in the LIMS system
• Prepare samples (e.g., dilution, plating)
• Incubate culture plates under required conditions
• Read and interpret microbiological results
• Perform confirmation tests for pathogens such as Salmonella, E. coli, Legionella, etc.
• Follow standard operating procedures (SOPs) and lab safety guidelines

Who We're Looking For

• Bachelor's degree in Laboratory Technology is a plus, or 1 - 3 years experience in a Microbiology Lab
• Experience in food microbiology is a bonus
• Hands-on, precise, and able to manage repetitive tasks
• Good command of English (Dutch not required)
