Lab Technician - Packaging & Materials Testing

Location: Menstrie, Clackmannanshire
Rate: £200-£300 per day
Contract: Contract

We are looking for an experienced Lab Technician/Packaging Testing Specialist to join a specialist Technical Science & Technology team based in Menstrie, Clackmannanshire.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone with a background in food & drink packaging, materials testing or packaging technology to work within a highly technical laboratory environment, supporting the testing and validation of packaging solutions against international safety and performance standards.

The Role

You will play a key role in implementing and validating International Safe Transit Association (ISTA) testing methodologies, carrying out packaging and transit testing and supporting the ongoing development of laboratory testing capabilities.

Key responsibilities will include:

• Implementing and validating ISTA testing procedures
• Operating and maintaining transit simulation equipment including incline impact testers, vibration tables and drop testers
• Deploying and analysing shock logger data
• Supporting the installation and validation of laboratory testing equipment
• Developing and maintaining Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs)
• Conducting packaging component testing and statistical analysis
• Supporting laboratory compliance, quality and Health & Safety
• Managing testing and validation activities through to completion
• Analysing results and presenting findings and recommendations to key stakeholders

What We're Looking For

We are particularly interested in candidates with experience within packaging, materials science, food & beverage manufacturing or a related testing environment.

You should ideally have:

• Strong experience in the production and/or testing of food and drink packaging materials
• Knowledge of packaging testing methodologies
• Experience working within a laboratory or technical testing environment
• Experience operating transit simulation or packaging testing equipment
• Strong data analysis and technical reporting skills
• Good project management capabilities
• Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills
• A degree in Packaging Technology, Engineering, Science or a related discipline, or equivalent relevant industry experience

Desirable Experience

Experience in any of the following would be advantageous:

• ISTA testing
• Novel or emerging packaging materials
• HACCP
• ISO 9001/Lead Auditor experience
• Material science
• Design of Experiments (DOE)
