Are you a reliable and hardworking Kitchen Assistant looking for an opportunity to work in a school environment?

GSL Education Newcastle are seeking dedicated Kitchen Assistants to work in schools across Middlesbrough.

The Kitchen Assistant will play an important role in the smooth operation of the school kitchen, assisting with food preparation, serving meals, and ensuring that kitchen and dining areas remain clean, organised, and compliant with health and safety regulations.

Responsibilities of a Kitchen Assistant:
  • Assist with the preparation and serving of meals and refreshments.
  • Prepare ingredients and support the kitchen team with food preparation tasks.
  • Maintain cleanliness and hygiene throughout the kitchen and dining areas.
  • Wash utensils, crockery, and kitchen equipment.
  • Ensure food is stored, handled, and served in accordance with food hygiene regulations.
  • Replenish food and beverage supplies during service.
  • Dispose of waste safely and maintain a tidy working environment.
  • Follow all health and safety, food hygiene, and safeguarding procedures.
  • Support the catering team with additional duties as required.
Requirements of a Kitchen Assistant:
  • Previous experience working in a kitchen, catering, or food service environment is desirable.
  • Basic knowledge of food hygiene and health and safety practices.
  • Food Hygiene Certificate is desirable but not essential.
  • Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong teamwork and communication skills.
  • Reliable, punctual, and committed to maintaining high standards of cleanliness.
  • A positive attitude and willingness to support the wider school community.
  • An enhanced DBS registered on the Update Service or willingness to apply through GSL Education.
