Junior Sister/ Charge Nurse Cancer Day Unit

Cancer Nursing is a rewarding and expanding speciality within Hywel Dda University Health Board. An opportunity has arisen for a Band 6 Registered Nurse to work in the specialised and rewarding area of the Pembrokeshire Haematology and Oncology Day Unit (PHODU) at Withybush General Hospital, Haverfordwest.

We are looking for highly motivated individuals, with a passion to work in oncology and with experience of working on a SACT unit, to join our nursing team at Pembrokeshire Haematology and Oncology Day Unit. PHODU is a busy and ever changing challenging environment where Systemic Anti Cancer Treatment is delivered to both, Oncology and Haematology patients.

Main duties of the job

The successful applicant should be able to demonstrate sound knowledge in oncology and haematology, be competent in administration of Systemic Anti Cancer Treatment and should be expert in cannulation, venepuncture and venesection.

We are looking for an experienced nurse with management and leadership skills, who can be adaptative, work autonomously and demonstrate excellent communication, listening and interpersonal skills.

Opportunities for learning at masters level, including non-medical prescribing, will be available to the successful applicants.

The successful candidate should be prepared to work across Health Board if required and have a flexible approach to the needs of the service.

Person Specification Qualifications and Knowledge
  • Registered first level nurse
  • NMC Registration
  • Education to Degree level
  • Evidence of continuing professional development within the speciality to postgraduate diploma level or equivalent experience
  • Post registration qualification in Oncology/ Haematology/ Chemotherapy
  • Completion of SACT passport
  • Teaching qualification
  • Recognised management qualification
Experience
  • Experience of working within chemotherapy environment
  • Must be SACT competent
  • Experience of working within a multi-professional environment
  • Able to work autonomously/ and within a small team
  • Competent in administration of systemic anti-cancer treatments, venepuncture, venesections and cannulation
  • Able to demonstrate sound knowledge of speciality
  • Previous experience of leadership and management
  • Experience of e-prescribing (chemocare)
  • Participation in PDRs
  • Participation in recruitment and selection
Language Skills
  • Welsh speaker (Level 1)
