Junior Mechanical Design Engineer

Prior Scientific is a world leader in developing, engineering, and manufacturing precision components and complete microscope systems. We are currently looking for an enthusiastic recent graduate to join our team as a Junior Mechanical Design Engineer based at our global headquarters in Fulbourn, Cambridgeshire.

The Junior Mechanical Design Engineer will be part of our multidisciplinary R&D team and will contribute to new designs and support existing products. This role is well suited to a recent graduate or a graduate with 1-2 years of industry experience.

Key responsibilities

1. Use SolidWorks to create and evaluate 3D dynamic designs for optical systems and accessories.
2. Create detailed drawings for manufacture using SolidWorks.
3. Configure parts and assemblies on the company's ERP system (EPICOR).
4. Collaborate with Production Engineers and personnel to ensure BOMs, assembly jigs, procedures, and packaging are prepared.
5. Assist with procurement and build of special projects, liaising with suppliers and our production facility.
6. Design solutions for engineering changes (ECOs) to enhance existing products and manufacturing processes.
7. Coordinate with Production Engineers, Assembly Managers, and Planning Department to implement design changes with minimal disruption.
8. Build and validate your designs.
9. Ensure all work complies with ISO 9001:2015 quality standards.

Core skills and experience

1. Degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline.
2. Experience using SolidWorks.
