This post is appointed on a fixed-term basis for the primary purpose of providing structured training and supervised clinical development. Please see below for a detailed job description of the role.
Main duties of the jobThe Oral and Maxillofacial (OMF) team are looking to recruit a Junior Fellow to join our MDT team. This is a 1 year fixed term position starting as soon as possible. We are looking for a passionate and dynamic individual looking to expand their skills and knowledge in OMF surgery.
The OMF department is based at University Hospital Southampton and is the regional hub for major trauma and oncology. You'll work in a multidisciplinary team including close links with our neurosurgery, dermatology and clinical/medical oncology colleagues. There are six full time consultant maxillofacial surgeons plus 1 plastic surgeon who make up the head and neck surgical team. A team of resident doctors complete a three tier on call service with out of hours first on call provided by generic head and neck ENT/OMF resident doctor.
The posts offer broad based training opportunities in all aspects of maxillofacial surgery. Activity involves both outpatient and inpatient based activities and the ability to be on an on call rota, either first or second tiers depending on experience.
This post is ideal for either a medically or dentally qualified resident doctor who is looking to advance their career in OMF surgery. This could also be an opportunity for a dually qualified doctor prior to ST entry training in OMF surgery. We would expect a dental graduate to have at least two years of oral maxillofacial experience at DCT/SHO level and a medical only graduate to have finished core training.

Job responsibilitiesThe junior fellow is expected to participate in all aspects of the work of the department under the general direction of the consultants, including outpatient and inpatient management of OMF elective and emergency pathways.
