Java Technical Designer - Contract

Overview

We are seeking an experienced Java Technical Designer to support the design and delivery of modern enterprise applications. This role will play a key part in shaping system architecture, producing high-quality technical designs, and supporting development teams to deliver scalable and reliable solutions. The successful candidate will work closely with developers, architects, and key stakeholders within an Agile delivery environment.

Key Responsibilities

Lead the design and review of system architecture, data models, and integration approaches.

Produce and review technical design documentation including conceptual, logical, and deployment designs.

Ensure solutions adhere to coding standards, best practices, and appropriate technical documentation.

Work closely with development teams to guide the implementation of Spring Boot and microservices-based solutions.

Participate in Agile ceremonies including sprint planning, daily stand-ups, sprint reviews, and retrospectives.

Support troubleshooting of application and infrastructure issues when required.

Assist with performance tuning and optimisation to ensure applications meet non-functional requirements (NFRs).

Contribute to the continuous improvement of development processes and technical standards.

Required Skills and Experience

Strong hands-on experience with Java, Spring Boot, and microservices architecture.

Proven experience working within Agile Scrum delivery environments.

Solid understanding of RESTful API design and integration.

Experience with containerisation technologies such as Docker and Kubernetes.

Knowledge of CI/CD pipelines and modern DevOps practices.

Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to review and improve technical designs.
