Job Description

As a Java Architect on a Digital Healthcare Team, you will play a crucial role in leading the technical design and development of the core backend infrastructure and systems that power our data-driven healthcare applications. You will play a critical part in designing and developing a modular backend platform and APIs. Your role will involve the design and development of secure and scalable platforms to support consumer-centric health and wellness applications. This role requires strong backend software development expertise combined with an understanding of healthcare data standards and privacy and security requirements.

You will ultimately be responsible for the development and implementation of consumer-centric and healthcare professional-focused digital tools aimed at enhancing medication adherence and achieving optimal health outcomes. This role requires strong leadership, project management, cross-functional collaboration, and technical expertise to ensure successful delivery of initiatives while optimizing program performance and alignment with business objectives.

The Digital Healthcare Team seeks a skilled and driven Backend Software Engineering Lead to drive and support the development and launch of innovative digital care and life management programs targeting diabetes and other chronic conditions. We are building a comprehensive digital health platform that empowers patients with chronic conditions and their informal caregivers to manage health journeys more effectively together. Our platform combines multiple modular services into a seamless ecosystem that bridges the gap between clinical care and daily life management.


Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related field.
  • 7+ years of experience in Java development with demonstrated healthcare domain knowledge.
  • 4+ years of experience with modular development on AWS.
  • Experience with database technologies (SQL and NoSQL).
  • Strong understanding of RESTful API design and implementation.
  • Familiarity with healthcare data standards (HL7, FHIR) and interoperability frameworks.
  • Knowledge of security best practices for handling protected health information (PHI) and other sensitive data.
  • Experience with containerization technologies and microservices architecture.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead the technical design and development of robust modular backend services to support a comprehensive digital health platform, including services such as content management, consent and preferences management, workflow automation and management, remote patient monitoring device and data management, medication management, survey management, in-app messaging, and voice and video call integration.
  • Implement and leverage development and test tools and utilities that integrate cutting-edge methodologies in automated generation of technical requirements, code, and testing protocols, enhancing developer efficiency and organizational productivity.
  • Design and build secure APIs that enable seamless integration between services.
  • Implement robust authentication and authorization systems compliant with healthcare standards, supporting management and processing of federated data.
  • Design efficient database schemas and data models for health information, and optimize the design of data storage and analytics for handling large volumes of clinical and consumer data, including management of federated data.
  • Create a scalable architecture that can handle increasing user loads and data volumes in dozens of countries and across multiple therapeutic areas.
  • Develop monitoring and logging systems to ensure platform reliability.
  • Collaborate with front-end developers to ensure seamless integration of backend services.
  • Develop comprehensive test suites to ensure code quality and system reliability.
  • Implement secure API endpoints following healthcare industry standards (e.g., FHIR).
  • Ensure compliance with healthcare regulations including HIPAA, HITECH, and relevant data protection laws.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate with EHR systems and third-party healthcare platforms.
  • Participate in code reviews and implement best practices for secure, maintainable code
  • Troubleshoot and resolve complex technical issues in production environments.
