IT Data Center Manager

The IT Data Center Manager is responsible for the operation, maintenance, and security of the organization's data center infrastructure. This role ensures high availability, performance, and compliance of IT/OT systems while leading a team of technicians and engineers.
The manager will collaborate closely with IT leadership and external service providers to align infrastructure strategies with business objectives and global standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee day-to-day operations, monitoring, and maintenance of data center infrastructure to ensure efficiency, reliability, and security.
- Act as the Single Point of Contact (SPOC) for all IT infrastructure-related matters at the Visp site, coordinating with external IT service providers and internal teams.
- Collaborate with local mechanical service teams (eg, electrical, facilities, fire safety, security, cooling) to maintain operational readiness.
- Lead and manage the Data Center Operations team, assigning tasks and ensuring high performance.
- Define and implement global data center strategy and standards, including cabling, labeling, and installation practices.
- Develop, test, and periodically update the site's technical disaster recovery plan.
- Manage the life cycle of IT infrastructure assets, including risk assessment and mitigation.
- Plan and execute data center expansions, migrations, and capacity planning initiatives.
- Drive continuous improvement, standardization, and automation of infrastructure systems.
- Ensure compliance with security policies, regulatory requirements, and industry standards (eg, GDPR, HIPAA, ISO 27001).
- Monitor performance metrics, troubleshoot issues, and implement solutions to minimize downtime.
- Stay current with emerging technologies and recommend innovations to enhance operations.
Required Skills & Qualifications
- In-depth knowledge of data center infrastructure: Servers, storage, networking, power, and cooling systems.
- Advanced experience with VMware vSphere, Windows Server, Linux, Storage, and Backup technologies.
- Solid understanding of networking fundamentals.
- Proven track record in managing data center projects (expansions, migrations, upgrades).
- Familiarity with regulatory and compliance frameworks (eg, GDPR, HIPAA, ISO 27001).
- Relevant certifications such as CDCP or CDCMP are advantageous.
- Strong knowledge of security best practices and infrastructure standardization.
- Experience in regulated industries, preferably pharmaceutical.
- Excellent communication skills, capable of engaging both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Fluent in English; German proficiency is preferred.
- Experience in large, multinational organizations (5-10 years)
