Job Description

We have a new opportunity to join a successful and hard working GP Practice as an IT Assistant. The position involves working alongside the existing IT Team to support the IT Manager in managing the practice's IT systems and maintaining accurate and up to date patient records.

Main duties of the job

Primary responsibilities include registering and deducting patients on a daily basis, ensuring patient details are accurate, liaising with Primary Care Support England, keeping GP links updated, collating new notes, and preparing and verifying A4/summarised/GP2GP notes. The role also involves cervical screening recall and follow up, entering Child Protection data, and troubleshooting IT problems with a view to resolving issues or escalating to suppliers' helpdesks where appropriate.

About us

Our practice includes 11 GPs, 7 Nurse Practitioners, 10 Nurses and 3 HCAs plus admin staff in various departments working across three sites. Two sites are in Low Grange Health Village and one is in Manor House, Normanby. We are a friendly and successful GP Surgery, having provided care for over 40 years with a strong sense of teamwork and a good work ethic.

Job responsibilities
  • Assist in the set up of new users according to practice protocol, ensuring they have access to required applications.
  • Help troubleshoot IT problems and identify solutions, reporting faults to suppliers' helpdesks where appropriate.
  • Ensure all users are aware of any changes or updates to operating systems and software used within the practice.
  • Ensure templates and searches are up to date and accurately entered within appropriate time frames.
  • Register and deduct patients daily, ensuring patient details are accurate.
  • Liaise with Primary Care Support England and keep GP links updated.
  • Collate new notes and prepare for A4/summarise/GP2GP verification.
  • Summarise notes to the practice standard.
  • Liaise with outside agencies re electronic data (e.g., Lab Links, hospitals).
  • Cervical screening recall and follow up.
  • Enter Child Protection data.
  • Enter diagnoses, test results and consultation data into patient records, ensuring accuracy and compliance with SNOMED code policy.
  • Advise the IT Manager/Practice Manager of any problems arising from data entry.
  • Run contract and clinical searches and reports when requested.
  • Keep up to date with QOF requirements and support clinicians in the implementation of QOF.
  • Ensure security of data in accordance with the Data Protection Act.
  • Any other duties commensurate with skills and responsibilities, including deputising for the IT Manager when on holiday.
Qualifications
  • GCSE English and Maths A to C is essential.
  • Any qualifications gained within the Health Care section would be advantageous.
Experience
  • Experience working within the Health Care section.
  • Ability to work in a team and independently when necessary.
  • Willingness to learn new things.
  • Enthusiasm, initiative, good communication skills and a friendly telephone manner are desirable. Being able to multitask and prioritise workload is a must.
