Job Description
We don't simply hire employees. We invest in them. When you work at Chatham, we empower you - offering professional development opportunities to help you grow in your career, no matter if you've been here for five months or 15 years. Chatham has worked hard to create a distinct work environment that values people, teamwork, integrity, and client service. You will have immediate opportunities to partner with talented subject matter experts, work on complex projects, and contribute to the value Chatham delivers every day.

We seek to enhance our Financial Risk Advisory team with a role managing the European ISDA & Regulatory Advisory team responsible for providing commercial advice to our clients in the areas of global derivatives regulation, derivatives agreements and associated documents that govern the relationships between our clients and their dealer bank counterparties. The European ISDA & Regulatory Advisory team supports Chatham teams and clients in the United Kingdom, Europe, and APAC regions.

In this role you will:
  • Lead Chatham's European ISDA & Regulatory Advisory team, ensuring consistency and alignment with both the global ISDA & Regulatory Advisory team and Chatham's broader business objectives
  • Hire and manage members of the European ISDA & Regulatory Advisory team, including developing and implementing training plans and providing professional development opportunities and guidance
  • Partner with the Global ISDA & Regulatory Advisory team lead and internal stakeholders to implement necessary operational and process updates driven by changing regulatory or trade documentation requirements
  • Partner with the Global ISDA & Regulatory Advisory team lead to develop and deliver regulatory and documentation training programs
  • Serve as a subject matter expert on global derivatives regulation (Dodd-Frank, EMIR, APAC, and cross-border) and/or trade documentation, including the ISDA Agreement, ISDA Credit Support Annex, local derivatives framework agreements, trade confirmations, and regulatory documentation
  • Interpret and analyze the impact of primary regulatory sources, secondary and industry sources, and regulator guidance related to derivatives regulation
  • Effectively create and share resources, materials, and knowledge relating to derivatives regulation and documentation with internal teams, clients, and business partners
  • Advise internal teams and external clients on the practical implications of derivatives regulation, in collaboration with client's internal and/or external counsel, by analyzing client and trade-specific information, determining required action items, and assisting in ensuring regulatory requirements are met
  • Review and analyze ISDA agreements and trade documentation, and negotiate contract terms on behalf of clients with bank counterparties
  • Review and analyze hedging mechanisms and provisions in underlying loan documentation
  • Participate in industry working groups to provide end-user perspectives on evolving derivatives documentation and regulatory issues
The role may also include opportunities to contribute to the team in other capacities as interests and team needs align.

Your impact:

Our team works in partnership with Chatham's advisory teams and clients to ensure they understand their regulatory compliance obligations and obtain fair and market standard provisions in their derivatives contracts. We strive to establish long-term working relationships with our clients, counsels, banks, and internal and external stakeholders, which allow us to provide efficient and effective advisory to our clients and our hedging advisory teams.

Contributors to your success:
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience working with derivatives documentation, derivatives regulation, or contract review is required; a legal degree is strongly preferred but not required
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Critical thinking with the ability to read and comprehend complex information quickly
  • Attention to detail but also an ability to synthesize information with a high-level perspective
  • Prior management experience is preferred, but not required
  • Command of multiple languages is a plus
We seek individuals that will thrive in our culture and can make a significant impact over the long term. Most of our team members do not come to Chatham with a deep understanding of derivatives; therefore, we conduct classroom and apprentice-style training. We look for people who have consistently demonstrated drive, determination, and academic/professional accomplishment throughout their lives. We invest a great deal of time and training with our employees, and we are looking for individuals who want to make a long-term commitment to the company.
