IOT RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT ENGINEER
Posted 5 hours 32 minutes ago by Sateliot
WHO ARE WE?
Sateliot is a Barcelona-based Startup in the New Space sector, becoming the first satellite telecommunications operator that will provide global and continuous connectivity to all the elements that will make up the massive Internet of Things (IoT) universe under the 5G protocol.
In order to do so, Sateliot is launching a constellation of last generation nanosatellites, located at low altitude that act as mobile towers. Sateliot is the perfect complement for large telecommunications companies by providing them with the necessary infrastructure where terrestrial technologies do not arrive.
YOUR MISSION
Sateliot is seeking a passionate and hands-on IoT Research and Development Engineer to join our growing R&D team. You will play a key role in developing cutting-edge IoT technologies, with particular focus on our NB-IoT over satellite solution. From setting up and maintaining lab testbeds to working with real IoT devices in field tests, you will be responsible for designing, building, and testing experimental prototypes (hadware and software) to support the evolution of Sateliot's technology.
A key part of your mission will involve the entire lifecycle of research and innovation projects, from the ideation and writing of competitive proposals, to technical leadership and execution of EU and nationally funded R&D initiatives, including SNS-JU, Horizon Europe, and National.
YOUR MAIN RESPONSABILITIES
- Design, develop, and test end-to-end IoT solutions, from the device to the cloud, leveraging NB-IoT over LEO satellite infrastructure in both real and simulated environments.
- Set up, maintain, and evolve R&D testbeds, integrating satellite and terrestrial components.
- Design, develop, implement, and evaluate solutions using IoT protocols, including CoAP, MQTT, LwM2M, UDP, TCP, QUIC, and SCHC.
- Conduct research on emerging IoT and 5G/6G NTN (Non Terrestrial Network) technologies.
- Support the preparation of competitive research proposals and grant applications, particularly for EU and national funding programs (e.g., SNS-JU, Horizon Europe).
- Contribute to technical documentation, including project deliverables, reports, and scientific publications.
- Collaborate with internal teams and external partners across multidisciplinary domains.
REQUIREMENTS
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Telecommunications, Electronics, Computer Engineering, or a related technical field.
- Hands-on experience with IoT communication protocols such as NB-IoT, LTE-M, LoRaWAN, or similar.
- Experience in IoT solutions, IoT servers, IoT device and server programming.
- Familiarity with 3GPP standards, especially Release 13/14/15 regarding LPWAN technologies.
- Experience with embedded systems programming (C/C++/Python) and microcontroller platforms.
- Experience with test and measurement tools (spectrum analyzers, network analyzers, loggers).
- Demonstrated ability to work in fast-paced R&D environments, independently and as part of a team.
- Good communication skills in English and Spanish, both written and verbal.
NICE TO HAVE
- Experience in satellite communications, especially LEO nanosatellite platforms.
- Hands-on with cloud-based IoT platforms (AWS IoT, Azure IoT Hub) and edge computing.
- Familiarity with DevOps practices, CI/CD pipelines and containerization (Docker, Kubernetes).
- Knowledge of 3GPP/IoT physical layer concepts, including modulation, coding, and radio propagation fundamentals.
- Knowledge of Artificial Intelligence applied to telecommunications.
- Proven experience participating in or coordinating publicly funded R&D projects (SNS-JU, Horizon Europe, CDTI, etc.).
- Knowledge of innovation ecosystems and industry initiatives (e.g., ESA ARTES, Digital Europe, CELTIC-NEXT).
