IOT Data Engineer - Critical Services

We are seeking a highly skilled IoT Data Engineer to join on a 12-month fully remote contract. This role is ideal for professionals with experience in mission-critical services who can design and implement data solutions for Real Time IoT systems. You will work with unstructured data at scale, leveraging Python, JSON, and SQL, while ensuring reliability and performance in environments where downtime is not an option.

Your background in Real Time data, edge computing, or industries such as defence, military, or oil & gas will be essential in supporting projects with stringent reliability and security requirements.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and maintain Real Time and batch data pipelines for ingesting and processing IoT data.
• Handle unstructured and semi-structured data (JSON, sensor streams, device logs, telemetry).
• Write and optimize SQL queries for high-performance data workflows.
• Develop and maintain Python-based tools for automation, API integrations, and streaming pipelines.
• Deliver low-latency data solutions for edge and critical service environments.
• Collaborate with multi-disciplinary teams to ensure system resilience and security.
• Implement best practices for data governance, reliability, and compliance.

Requirements

• Proven experience as a Data Engineer working with IoT or Real Time data systems.
• Strong hands-on skills in Python, SQL, and processing JSON/unstructured data.
• Experience in Real Time/edge computing or mission-critical industries (military, defence, oil & gas, or similar).
• Familiarity with streaming technologies (Kafka, MQTT, or equivalent).
• Understanding of cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP) and scalable data architectures.
