Job Description

Our department is full of opportunities for newly qualified nurses, as well as those who are looking to develop new skills, to get involved in quality improvement and collaborate with multidisciplinary team. The department is open from 08:00 to 18:30 with night shift from 18:00 to 06:00 and on-call service cover during weekends.

You will be admitting and caring for patients before, during and post invasive procedures, including scrubbing, circulating and recovery.

When you join the Interventional Radiology Nursing team, you will be participate in our local orientation programme which will allows for cross site experience i.e.

Charing Cross Hospital - neurological, stroke, thrombectomy and oncology

St Mary's Hospital - vascular and trauma

Hammersmith Hospital - renal, haematology, pulmonary and hepatobiliary

You will receive further support from our clinical educator in a friendly team environment and be able to broaden your nursing experience by working within a multi-disciplinary team.

Main duties of the job
  • Independently manage a group of patients and provide leadership within the speciality collaborating with the MDT to deliver individualised and personalised direct patient care
  • Demonstrate adequate practice and specialist knowledge in the assessment, planning, and implementation of patient care. This will include history taking, physical examination, evaluate patients and relative's needs, ensure patient is adequately prepared and safe for the agreed interventional procedure.
  • Adequate assessment and specialist care of the conscious - sedated patient. Responsible and correct administration within line with local and trust policies of conscious sedation.
  • Responsible for the correct administration, disposal and storage of medicines and blood products. Thorough knowledge of frequently used drugs within the department, showing understanding of potential complications and side effects, and their management.
  • Develop and utilise highly specialised skills to deliver adequate support and care to patients and MDT within the interventional suite. Oversee and actively involved in scrubbing and assisting interventional practitioners.
  • Perform accurate handover of patients care and specific of procedure performed. Provide safe escort for patient when transferred back to the ward or intensive care. Add as patient advocate when minimal escort support is not provided and escalate accordingly.

Person Specification Education
  • Registered General nurse (level 1) Degree in Nursing
  • Post registration qualification; Teaching Qualification or equivalent experience.
  • Radiology nursing course. Critical care or recovery nursing course or equivalent experience
  • Willingness to undertake further training applicable to the post
Experience
  • Comprehensive experience of IR & Imaging nursing and has experience of nursing care in an acute or critical care setting
Skills
  • Ability to organise department activities and to use initiative
  • Have an interest in professional development
  • Ability to solve problems and contribute new ideas
  • Competency in medication administration including IV medications
