Job Description

We have been approached and exclusively retained by a one of Europe's leading property development and real estate Groups to help build their Internal Audit team. Our first assignment is to find an Internal Audit Manager, who will be based in central London, UK.

Through its core operations and subsidiaries, this Group conglomerate develops, owns, and runs an estate worth £billions, with a portfolio made up of many of the iconic and instantly recognisable landmarks and developments across Europe. Therefore, travel is expected to be rather low, probably less than 20% around the UK and internationally too.

Reporting directly to the Group Director of Internal Audit & Risk, the primary part of this role is to identify business entity and process risks, use mitigating controls and evaluate internal controls through verification, then also recommend control improvements required to mitigate residual risks and assist continuous improvements in departmental processes. The annual audit programme consists of financial, operational, IT and legal audits. Additionally, the internal audit team also conduct special ad hoc investigations, as requested, and support the preparation of documents for presentation to the Audit Committee.

We are looking for an experienced audit/finance/accounting professional, most likely a qualified (ACA, ACCA, CIMA, etc.) Audit Manager / Assurance Manager from a practice firm (Big4, Top10 etc.). Previous experience in real estate, property, etc. would be advantageous, but is not necessary. English is the business language, and a second European language (eg. French) would also be a benefit too, given the international breadth of this role.

Communication and management skills are key to the success of this position, as is maintaining and developing relationships with key stakeholders at Head of/Director level and up to board level to help ensure the audit work carried out adequately addresses the key risks in the Group.

As we are starting to build this team almost from scratch, the progression opportunities are endless, but the successful applicant will receive encouragement to take on more responsibility once established in the role both up in audit and beyond that into the business.
